Or just a hunch?

Gill seem a little young to be handed the reins of such a big program. Buffalo to Nebraska is a huge leap. In a perfect world, they could put him on Pelini's staff to be groomed, much like Wade Phillips and Jason Garrett at Dallas. The only flaw in this is that Pelini is not the equal to Phillips. He is hungry also.

im with you clean.

i think the prospect of sending pelini out on recruiting visits and having him scare the kids is going weigh heavily on this decision.

I just find it funny that big ol Nebraka wants a guy to be their head coach when the school he is at doesnt even want him to be their DC.. How times have changed..

He is 44 y/o and has 13 seasons as an assistant at Nebraska (3 NCs in the 90s), 1 year in the NFL with Green Bay and 2 seasons as a HC at Buffalo.

How much HC experience does Pelini have?

It is, more likely than not, because Osborne hasn't interviewed all the parties he wishes to interview. Maybe that'll never happen (Osborne interviewing all the candidates he'd LIKE to), but I'm guessing that's the answer for now.

I.E. coaches in the midst of figuring out/canvasing for bowl bids...

Is it possible that Pelini asked that the announcement come after the SECCG so he could finish what he started?? If so, this may be a smokescreen, much like Miles to Michigan.

I don't think Nebraska would be hurt if the announcement came Saturday night, and this request by Pelini may have actually impressed Osbourne during the interview.

Just throwing it out there. Not sure if I believe it.

That is what I believe as well. Everybody pretending like they don't want to mess with us before we play in the SEC Championship. Trying to be "classy."

I didn't know that LSU came out and said they didn't want him to be the DC. I just thought it was the dumbass fans on message boards who have the luxury of calling their defensive plays after they see his fail.

I think Tom Osborne trusts Turner Gill a lot more than Bo. I'm a little surprised he didn't try going after a guy like Jim Leavitt or Paul Johnson.

Damn! Now the only way to get rid of Pelini is for Miles to leave. I am fine with that also.

Maybe he is (Johnson, to be exact)???

Johnson, today, would neither confirm nor deny if he's been contacted by Nebraska and chose to say "no comment" when asked about such.

One thing to consider, given Osborne's statement today, is that Paul Johnson is trying to get his team ready for their big rivalry game this weekend against Army. It could be that Osborne HAS NOT interviewed him or spoken to him yet (if Johnson has any interest) because of the fact that Johnson & Navy have a big game this weekend. Perhaps Johnson asked Osborne to hold off on the interview or any fashion of announcement until AFTER this weekend? Or, maybe, Osborne has chosen NOT to offer the job to Johnson, Gill, et al., out of respect for those coaches still with games to coach and such.

Osborne said he has not made an offer to anyone yet...I tend to have to take him at his word.
