State has had success with ex A&M HC's:
Bellard
Sherrill

Time for SUMLIN to come home to the SEC West.

Probably the next ones to open will be South Carolina and Kentucky. South Carolina because Muschamp will be fired and Kentucky because someone will finally figure out how Stoops is essentially a miracle worker there right now.

Guys on hot seat next season...

Mason
Muschamp
Malzahn

Those would be the likeliest possibilities for Napier if he waits another year or two.

I bet he takes the State job.

Yep.

They should hire Hud. They can get him for cheaper than Napier.

Watch Napier turn it down and they end up with Matt Luke.

And Chavis as DC.

I have to think that Napier can't see this as a good situation no matter how much he wants to get into the SEC. Starkville is a fricking quagmire right now and Napier is smart enough to realize it.

This is what I’m hoping. Dead end job having to go up against Bama, LSU, Auburn...and maybe eventually a Jimbo-resurrected A&M ever season.

We’ll see...

I think the thing that works in our favor is that we have a pretty talented team coming back next year. If he wins the Sun Belt and wins 11/12 games, he’s set himself up for a better job than Mississippi State. But I’m not sitting here gambling with another man’s money.

So what did it?

His bizarre rant?
His handling of the players?
His shitting the bowl?
Sudden realization and acceptance that he sucks?

Little bit of all the above?

Actually, I would say this move extinguished the dumpster fire depending on who gets hired.

State saw its neighbor pull into the garage in a Ferrari and now is going to go out looking for its bright red Datsun.

You go, State.

Definitely if they get Napier they upgraded.

Napier would be a much better fit. He’s already more experienced than Moorhead when he was named HC. And he’s just better fit. He’s taken the bump and grind of the SEC. He knows the culture on the ground. He made his bones in that hot kitchen environment. Moorhead had not.

Lot of experience in South Carolina, Alabama, Louisiana. Seen a lot: winning established programs, programs in disarray, cleaning up after someone. Good recruiter. And ull is not an easy job. Two good years with improvement. Honestly I’d fire Moorhead and hire Napier and it would be an easy call.

Now, if they end up with someone like the New England special teams coach then this is probably a frick up.

Yeah I think a lot of things had to happen in order for him to get fired.

Underachieving + 2 bowl flops + tutor scandal + fight before the most recent bowl + pretty aggressive towards the MSU fanbase

Would not have believed you if you had told me 10 years ago that MSU would fire a coach that went to two bowl games and was 2-0 in the Egg Bowl.

I kind of applaud them for pulling the plug now instead of waiting/hoping. It's not like he inherited a rebuild. They regressed under his watch and it was obvious it wasn't a good fit

Him daring the administration to fire him after the Egg Bowl is what sealed his fate in my opinion. At that point I think it was understood at the first opportunity he was going to be fired

yeah that was an odd move. People already disliked him and he doubled down.
