You may be right and he's not leaving Baton Rouge--the rumors here (earlier today) were that the President/AD/Miles+agent were in talks on how to do "spin" if he took the offer....the "anti-Saban" strategy if you will....they'll argue it's different--he was being honest, but things changed, dream job/coming home--it's not about the money (which is why rumor had base salary offer slightly lower, by design, than current salary at LSU) rumor? probably but it should be an interesting week....

I can't see Miles leaving now.

I honestly believed him when he said, "You can't be two places at once... and I got a place."

For better or worse, coach Miles is going to be at LSU for a long, long time.

It means the big money people are putting their foot down and Coleman is smart enough to figure things out.

She saw what happened to the President at Bama a few years ago.

I'd not be surprised if Miles has talked to Coleman or Martin. It could be seen as the honorable thing to do before parting ways for good this year.

It benefits both Miles and UM to keep relations good, even if Miles stays at LSU for several more years.

Call me crazy and I'm sure some will... But do ya all think for a sec. that maybe just maybe these UM dip shits are just a little bitter about all this and just want to keep adding gas to a fire that was already put out when Les signed on the dotted line? To me they just keep coming up with more cockamainie bullshite to keep it out there and make them feel better. I don't know but its all getting a little old if you ask me..

belowpar, you have been right about many things and if you don't know something stick to your guns. We can see that you don't try and make news. Good for you.

It is very possible that Coach Miles was contacted by U of M because most of us are in an uproar on how we think the Miles to Michigan was handled. I have personally sent an e-mail to MSC. If he was contacted by Michigan MSC obviously is gonna be real discrete for many reasons. This doesn't mean he is leaving LSU.

Unless belowpar is Les Miles himself he is not going to know everything. Give the guy a break.

Nice find Rocket but I don't think MCS will let Skip know her intension's now.

I wouldn't put too much stock into the phone conversation. I think les was probally trying to do the respectful thing.

Rocket,

I have stated in previous posts that I have a "feeling" about LM to UM -- and not necessarily good ones. Miles said he loves it here, he's staying here, he'll be the coach here next year. All those things are true -- in the moment. Life is dynamic. Circumstances are changing all the time.

No the sky is not falling, but I am trying to be a realist. When someone wants to go home, there's no obstacle too big to prevent that from happening.

All these LSU people, including Skip and Sean, who are absolutely, without-a-doubt, confident that Les is not going anywhere are a bit naive.

With that said, if you want something to hang on to that offers a glimmer, consider these things:

1) The commitment he got on Sunday:
quote:

Clement said his decision invoked an emotional reaction by Miles.

"He loved it," Clement said. "I was in his office with my mom and my stepdad. He was just psyched about it."

2) The scene in the chapel Saturday, Dec.1, when his players began to question his intentions, prompting him to have a last-minute press conference to clear the air. Granted we now know, there had been no offer at the time. But I believe he's the kind of guy who is a true coach, loves the kids he guides, and knows that he has/will have a huge impact on their lives, their futures and a hand in shaping their character, just like Bo did for him. That may mean more to him than coaching at his alma mater.

If you read everything that's out there - media reports, blogs, message boards, betting sites -- you can find more subtle hints like these to the positive if you look really hard or you can find more obvious negatives, pointing to his leaving. It all depends on what you're looking for.

You can make yourself sick over the possibility of him going, or you can make yourself sick with the hopeful anxiety that he'll stay.

In the end, just like life, we have absolutely no control over it. It will be what it will be.

So just keep with the positive thoughts, do your part for the Miles Maniacs, support your team, and

You can never go wrong there!

I don't know how true this is...but the word I'm hearing is that Miles was contacted by MSC and Bill Martin last Friday. They talked about the whole Miles to Michigan fiasco, apologized for it, and asked Miles what he thought about the future of UM. The converstation they had was pleasant and too the point.

I will just keep reposting this until this topic finally dies out:

quote:

you guys understand that Miles has to pay the buyout right? the new school doesnt pay it, the coach does. So if Miles left, he is on the hook for $1.25mm and if a booster group raised the buyout and gave the money Miles to pay it then Miles has to pay taxes on it.

So in effect he would be on the hook for approximately $2mm to get out of his LSU contract.

remember Vandy sued Dinardo for his buyout and they went to court where Dinardo was forced to settle with Vandy

carr's asst coaches payoff = $1.3mm
new asst coaches contracts = $1.3+mm
Miles LSU buyout = $1.25mm
Miles contract = $2.5+mm

that is $6.35mm of booster club and university money for Miles to come to Michigan.

Now what makes any of you think UM will pay that kind of money for Les Miles unless he beats Tressel and has a BCSNC. Nothing with UM and Miles would happen timing wise (Miles wouldnt allow it to interfere with the BCSCG) or perception wise (UM admin probably needs Miles to have a NC to pay the $6mm to get him) until after the BCSCG.

The ONLY way I could see Miles leaving is with a NC ring. Then he could say, "I gave LSU what they deserved (a Sabanless NC), now it is time for me to go home to get what I deserve" (follow in Bo's footsteps).

Somebody isn't thinking this through. Sure, if another school pays the departing coach's buyout, which is a personal liability of the departing coach, or reimburses him, that constitutes income to the coach. But the payment of the buyout by the coach (or on his behalf) constitutes a deductible ordinary and necessary business expense associated with his coaching livelihood, so the two wash out. That said, this isn't happening.

Supatigah, I said the same thing:

quote:

If the timing works out, and events play out positively for all parties involved (national title, recruiting, dead periods, etc.) then it is very possible that Miles gets his dream, we get ours (NC), Pelini gets his, etc.

If all this bullshite continues to be played out in the national media, the team will be paying attention to everything but the game, and all we'll get is the runner-up trophy.

According to the NCAA, the new School can not pay a contract buyout, Miles is personally responsible for the buyout as spelled out in his LSU contract.

So if the UM boosters raised the $1.25mm to give to Miles, he is either on the hook for an interest free "loan" or a taxable gift. Either way going to UM will put Miles $1.25mm poorer. Now whether he ever pays that "loan" back is doubtful, but he will owe somebody if he goes to UM.

The chips are definitely stacked against such a move
