The crowd at the game on Tuesday is going to be insane. If it was a Friday night game I'd find a way to be there.

Hoke is a defensive coach. Now, if you look at the Michigan defense last season before Hoke was there, look at the defense this year, look at the defensive roster (not a very impressive roster at all) Hoke is damn impressive. Urban Meyer is a great offensive coach but unless he's trying to bring in a high profile, big-time defensive coordinator, Michigan and Hoke won't have much to worry about.
Agree. Hoke is going to be a good coach IMO. Should be some good recruiting battles coming in big 10 country.

Just a heads up, 5 star DE Adolphus Washington verbaled to the Bucks today... and was excited at the prospect of playing for Urban Meyer
Saw that comment from a story posted today about the situation.
Any truth to it?

great hire.
interested to see how much he will utilize his florida high school connections in recruiting.

so why did he quit the Florida job if all he wanted to do was go back to coaching? Was it just for the "break"?
Posted on 11/22/11 at 8:37 pm to HurricaneDunc
he wanted to spend a 3 day weekend with his family before he took that ESPN job
Posted on 11/22/11 at 8:42 pm to HurricaneDunc
My opinion is that he wanted the OSU job and has knowledge about the pending storm brewing in Columbus. He quit UF in 2009 expecting something to happen then, but got word that it wasn't so he stayed on. This time, he knew they were about to have an opening and left in preparation for it. His 7-5 season at Florida and the obvious rebuilding wasn't something he wanted to deal with. So whether it was 1 season or 2 or 3 wasn't a big deal to him. He would just take the job whenever it opened up.

But why would he want the OSU job over the Florida job? I would think coaching in the SEC and winning a couple BCSNCs has to be pretty close the pinnacle of college coaching.

He already won 2 at Florida...

I'm reading from more and more Buckeye sites that the deal is done and he is already assembling his staff.

Congrats if it does turn out to be this way. Great Hire imo and will do wonders for the Buckeyes. Hope to play you all again real soon.

Thanks windhammontanatigers, I would love to play LSU again once we get back to our playing well again.

It will be interesting to see how many recruiting battles he wins against UF and the Champ....
This is not good for UF.

if this is true then i lost all respect for him. shows that his family excuse was just that, an excuse. he leaves UF when the team is young and down to 70 scholarship players and all of his all star players and coaches are gone.
if osu does get the 2010 meyer version we had they're no better off than they are now. he was lucky at UF, he could drive a few hours and have 4 and 5 star athletes in each direction. he'll have to spend a lot more time on the road recruiting at osu. will be interesting to see if he can "balance his family time"
Posted on 11/22/11 at 11:27 pm to VABuckeye
Well my perception of Meyer was shite before this situation has done nothing to change this. The only positive is that despite his actual knowledge of the game, he's about as monotone as anyone in the booth so it will be nice to not have to hear from him. The way ESPN has painted him as this moral high road coach is such a fricking joke.
Meyer is so full of shite.

Doncha know? He did some "research" into that and found that it can be done.
Yeah, all of the above. He probably had some knowledge of the impending trouble at OSU, yeah, he lost his star players and coaches, and yeah, he is/was disingenuous about it all, what with using his family and his health as his excuses to slip off the sinking ship, and to set himself up to be in the right position to be the hired gun for the next big job. Sounds like he will get Mack Brown kinda money. It is all about the money and the ego.
His family will just have to trade his time for his money, which at this point they may just actually prefer.
