My son played football at a small Texas school. I took him to a Baylor football camp. He was the smallest D-lineman there, and he was consistently beaten in drills. But he kept at it, and he got better.

While running a drill against a huge O-lineman, my son’s cleat blew out. The whole side of his shoe tore, and his foot fell out. Instead of sitting out, he ran to the trainer and had them tape his cleat on his foot. He ran back to the drill and jumped back in.

Rhule was standing there, and he blew the whistle and called everyone up. He brought my son up in front of everyone and said, “This is the smallest kid out here. He hasn’t won a drill yet. But he’s got more heart than anyone out here. This is what football is all about!”

I’ll never forget that. I was so impressed by the entire camp. It was the most well run, professional camp I’ve ever seen. Matt Rhule had a presence, and was thoroughly impressive.

If we have a chance to get Rhule, I’m all in. Sorry for the long post.

Good stuff man

There once was a 160 pound linebacker at Kent State who got the shite beat out of him on scout team there for three years

He then became a coach

Name is Lou Holtz

This is a great story! No doubt your son is applying that tenacity in all aspects of his life. Fits your username.

Cute little story but that doesn't win football games.

If you had a tenth of the heart of Rudegar you would've been all-American. As it is, you just went from the 3rd team to the prep team.

Sounds like his dad needs to buy his kid some better cleats.

Just kidding, he would be a home run hire
