Not a top tier job. Top tier in resources and support. Not destination or job. Its becoming apparent again for 2nd time in 5 years.

Look past the football aspect if you're these guys...
Louisiana has terrible schools for kids, not really a lot of extracurricular activities, poor infrastructure, horrible state legislature (which you'd have to deal with at LSU), terrible climate...
LSU has NEVER landed a big named football coach at time of hiring.
This is coming from someone that loved living in Baton Rouge but it doesn't compare to Austin, TX or Los Angeles, CA.

But yet they have better education numbers, activities, etc. than Louisiana. I'm born and raised and went to LSU. I love the state but even I had to leave. I live in Florida now.
