Basically saying that Woodward and many higher ups in the LSU AD are more than willing to make Riley the highest paid coach in CFB if that's what it takes to get him.

Going to overpay just to get a “name”.

Saban also recommended Houston Nutt as his replacement when he left LSU. I hope Woodward isn't putting too much stock into who Saban recommends to coach against him.

Jimbo is akin to the mike Bianco talk on the baseball side. Just comfortable, inside the box hires for Woodward.

Ok so lets play this situation out....

Let say there are 2 companies that rival each other. Bill was the manager of company A and Ted worked for Bill. Ted fricked around and never did his job correctly but always wanted to be a manager. One day Ted moves off and 3 years later, now company B is your direct competitor calls Bill asking about Teds work ethic.

Now heres the dilemma, does Bill lie and rave about Ted being a great worker even tho he shite all over the employee toilet seats and banged a hooker in the janitor closet

OR

Does Bill tell the truth about his experience with Ted?

Me personally, I hope company B hires Ted and he fricks the boss’ wife and gives her an STD that way i know he will never be a true competitor. Just my opinion...

Uh, that’s not how references work. Saban is the greatest college football coach of all time who is known for his work ethic, leadership and detail oriented-ness. He doesn’t just blindly praise people who worked for him. References are a mark of character so don’t take them lightly.

If you listened to Saban in 2004, Houston Nutt would be your coach right now

This may indeed be true--fickell may in fact be waiting for the OSU job--but it seems to make somewhere between very little sense and no sense whatsoever. Ryan Day has been excellent for Ohio State so far, is only 42 years old, can both recruit AND coach, and has an alma mater that isn't in the top tier of jobs. All that adds up to "he ain't leavin anytime soon". It would be one thing if fickell was already at a power 5 school and was "waiting" while cashing $5m+ checks each year... but he's not. He's at a top G5 school and has them humming, but he's actively leaving several million dollars per year on the table by "waiting". Just doesn't make any sense to me.

Yeah. All of this. When TF is the Ohio State job going to "open up"? Fickell might not be interested in coming to LSU, but him waiting for OSU is just dumb.

WTF

The article lost a lot with this one. Not only for the 30 mil buyout, but also the terrible job he is doing at Texas

Not really. The article gave a very detailed breakdown of why Woodward and LSU higher ups want him:

- Multiple seasons with 12+ wins. That doesn't happen by accident.

- Elite offensive coach, QB recruiter and developer. He runs the offense, calls the plays, coaches and develops the QBs. That results in consistency year over year because you're not relying on a revolving door of offensive coordinators.

- Young at just 38 years old. Can connect well to the players.

- Understands roster management, which is an underrated part of a head coach's job.

Absolute fricking inanity. Woodward is mentally deficient if he actually believes this.

need to provide context on the sark mention so that shea isn't painted as a crazy person.

sark was hired by woodward to UW, which everyone knows, so it's not out of left field that he would get mentioned in a woodward search.

he's obviously cooling off bc of the on-field results at UT.

so it's much ado about nothing.

The 247 article the OP is citing didn't rank the candidates - instead it just grouped them into tiers.

Tier 1 was Jimbo, Riley, and Tucker - although if you read Shea's thoughts on each, it's clear that Jimbo and Riley are the top two.

When you factor in what posters like TBL have said, I think it's clear we're pushing for Riley first, with Jimbo as a backup.

We'll see. I have witnessed LSU botch too many head coaching hires to completely discount the prospect of ineptitude. See Orgeron, Ed.

Believe me when I say that I hope talk of hiring Tucker is nonsense. His defense is going to get humiliated again this weekend by OSU.

Didn't Saban really like Houston Nutt as well? Why would Saban give a genuine assessment on the coach that will be battling him in the near future to win games and recruiting battles?

That’s the dumbest lie I ever heard.

An insider on 247 has been saying that Woodward had Sark at the top of his list last year before Texas hired him. He said Sark would likely be the guy if he never got hired by Texas, but thankfully they saved us from him.

Also, if someone isn't announced by early December it means our guy is coaching in the playoffs, and it won't be Saban, Kirby, or Cristobal. So you'll know without knowing.

Woodward is going to shock everyone and hire Ryan Day.
