Advocate-Ross Dellenger
quote:

NEWS: #LSU and OC Matt Canada are in the final stages of settlement talks to split. The end is near. The school and Canada are discussing a settlement on the $3.3M he's owed

quote:

Canada’s fate at LSU has been determined: He will not return to the program next season, something expected and widely reported before the Citrus Bowl earlier this week.

quote:

The nature of the separation and its legal standing are being reviewed by university leaders, and a final outcome is expected by the end of the weekend.

quote:

How the Tigers will replace Canada is not quite clear, and his departure is somewhat of a blow to the early tenure of Orgeron

quote:

Jerry Sullivan, the 73-year-old longtime NFL receivers coach who has served as a consultant last season, could have a more significant role in the offense.

quote:

During his first interview with reporters since August, Canada last week hinted at the internal fight between he and Orgeron. A reporter asked Canada if he felt like he controlled his offense this season. “Yes,” he responded. Another reported followed asking, “All year?” Canada sat mum, non-verbally declining to answer. To a question about he and Orgeron's relationship, Canada said, “Coach O and I have the same goal – we just want to win." Pressed about their relationship, he said, “That’s our relationship – we just want to win.”

If I were Canada I would not negotiate at all. Make them pay full buyout.

The program can pay the $3.3 million in monthly installments over the life of the contract, through 2020. The amount is mitigated with any future salary Canada receives from another job.

I’m not advocating either way for Canada to go or stay.....but the hit won’t be too bad financially if he is out, since it would be paid out in this manner.

I think this tells you all you need to know about who the OC is going to be

If you read Dellenger's piece carefully, I think it is pretty clear what will happen in regards to the OC.

quote:

Jerry Sullivan, the 73-year-old longtime NFL receivers coach who has served as a consultant last season, could have a more significant role in the offense.

The Tigers would likely hire another offensive assistant no matter what. How the staff will be organized, as far as titles and duties, is not clear. Counting Ensminger's interim role, LSU's new offensive coordinator would be the eighth since coach Nick Saban left in 2004.

Moscona has reported this same narrative on his show a few times.

To me, it seems that this is shaping up to be a co-offensive coordinator role with Ensminger being the main OC. Personally, this sounds like an absolute disaster waiting to happen.

Agree. Gonna ruin the good grace they bought by keeping Aranda. Probably floating the 73 year old around to make Ensminger somehow seem like a better alternative. This is fricking laughable at this point.

Y’all think O just sits at home and is like “Yes, Steve is the missing key. He will put us over the top.”... wtf. How can something so obvious to everyone else be completely lost on the dude actually making the call.

If it's really Sullivan and/or Ensminger together, why can't they just hang on to Canada for another year? Take a year to for Canada to find a soft landing spot and have O and Canada agree on boundaries.

Both Ensminger and Sullivan are currently with the program and can be interims on a moment's notice.

But the other question is, why can't we get an elite OC? Is it the buyout money?

You are right; I know nothing about being an offense coordinator. But I think most would agree that promoting Ensminger to a quasi-OC role with an additional offensive staff member essentially filing in the pieces has a very low probability of being successful.

Example: Special Teams this year.

come on O.

That's not a good tidbit. Dictating Sullivan's involvement in the offense before he even has a coordinator would be a disaster. That's a disturbing signal that points to already having a plan in place for Ensminger.

I think what a lot of people are overlooking is that if Canada does leave he will be with a different organization 4 years in a row. That is not a good looking resume. Add to that he will have been fired in 15' and 17' after one year on the job.
Say what you want about O', Canada sounds like the problem to me.
