I just dont understand this coaching hires thing. Some schools, nfl franchises leave you scratching your head.

They want kingsbury with their young QBs they just drafted.
Kingsbury won't be recruiting so talent on defense isn't his responsibility.

exactly
i'm sure the interviews clearly established (1) he won't have much input into player acquisition and (2) he'll have to hire an autonomous DC. they're just trying to find another McVay and it may work out
it's very likely that even if he fails at HC within the next 1-2 years, he'll dramatically improve their (hopefully) franchise QBs, so the overall risk is low
