I have noticed this too. The problem with Gary Crowton is his ability to adapt his offense and qb development.
When it comes down to breaking down a defense and calling plays Crowton is very good IMO. He just needs Flynn/Steve Young running his offense.

People really dont understand...when Miles was hired here, he didn't want Jimbo Fisher as his OC. He wanted Gary Crowton. Crowton was at the very top of his list.

First of all, Crowton is very respected in the coaching community nationally. Second, he had shown to be very adaptable during his time as an NFL OC. The Bears were a run-first team and he certainly had to curb his tendancies to open things up while there. Did he clash with Miles, yes but they still won a national title together, thanks in large part to having two QB's who were adept at running multiple style offenses. After RP left and the inept defense forced a too-wide-open offense to be run by freshmen, Les got more heavily involved in the play-calling to rein in GC. That is a known fact. Crowton will probably do well in the ACC providing they can steer enough QB talent into Maryland.

Everyone says les is pro style pound it guy but I seem to remember okie state running a lot of spread during his time there with the woods brothers. Maybe Les wanted to move us towards the spread offense?

Crowton was brought in because he showed he could adapt his offense at Oregon from a more pass first QB in Clemens to more of a running QB Dixon. Yeah, Dixon fell apart at the end of 06, but they still had the 9th ranked offense and Dixon did look good under Crowton in a lot of games. He also showed he could incorporate some power runners like Jonathan Stewart and Jeremiah Johnson into his offense. This is exactly what we needed going from Flynn to Ryan P.
