Honestly, Two completely opposite styles and philosophy..

Miles saw what was in front of him in 2007 and wanted a proven guy who could come in and work with what he has and not change much. That worked with Crowton.
Strangely, we have the same potential now in 2011. That's why I don't think you'll see someone drastically different, like Leach. You'll see someone who can come in and quickly adapt what we have or else has a simple enough scheme that we can hit the ground fast against Oregon.

I wonder about this as well.
I also wonder if in 07, Crowton had total control, and following the 08 debacle, Miles stepped in.
If the option is run next year, I'm going to vomit knowing that Miles is involved with the usage of that play.

How much different were Jimbo and Crowton? Serious question...im have a hard time remembering exactly what Jimbos style was.

dude....alot of OCs run the option...even option to the short side.

That's great, when you have someone that can run it.
JJ does not run it well. To me, it is a wasted play.
Almost like running the read option with Lee in the game.

Ok, but that doesn't mean you have to continue to run it if it is not presently effective.
The most successful option play this season was actually a forward pass to Ford in the Ole Miss game.
My point wasn't to debate the option. My point is (and I have not previously defended Crowton), is that we'll never know what actually was hindering the offense, GC, Miles, or the QB.

We won't know for sure, but the fact that the offensive demise here fit well with Crowton's history at every other stop gives me a pretty good idea. Even if it was the qb play, whose job was it to develop the qb's?

Jimbo runs a pro-style multipile set offense. I did not like Crowton hire from day one, but I don't like the spread offense. After 07 I thought I had been wrong but the rest is history.

Someone he knew and was comfortable working with... may have been nudged that way if his relationship with Jimbo was contentious too...

KW's long TD run against Virginia Tech was an option to the short side, out of the pistol formation...

I never thought he was brought in to run the spread specifically. I think he was brought in as a multiple set guy. JJ just forced us to go more spread over the last couple of years. Miles and Crowton thought he would be more successful basing the offense around that. JMHO.

I'll say this.... JJ looked better against Bama/Ark/A&M for the most part than Darron Thomas looked against Auburn.
I thought Thomas was average at best in that game. And not necessarily because of anything Auburn was doing. He just seemed out of synch or nervous. I was not impressed at all.
And I mention this also because a lot was made of Thomas wanting to come to LSU as a QB and Les/Crowton wanted him as a DB or something.
