Miles has 9 full years as a head coach. Patterson has had 9 full years. Miles is 79-35. Patterson is 85-28. I would say the leveling factor is that Patterson's tenure as a coach in the WAC/C-USA/Moutain West versus Miles' Big-12/SEC resume. Miles also has the BCS Championship. However, Patterson has been very impressive, however, and leads one of the best small conference programs in the entire country, probably with Boise.
If you're trying to say that as of the hiring of Les Miles he was comparable to Curley? Except for the difference in conference strengths, I can concede that, up to a point. But, that's shortsighted, because at the time - Patterson had a similar resume to Miles. If you're trying to compare Miles in late 2004 to Patterson right now, I don't know why you would be doing that.

Well, that will only make you work hard enough to stay comfortable. Same with OC and DC. They said that Chavis' isn't looking for a HC job. Why the F not? I want people who want to excell and show what they've got. Look at Miami with Schelenbrecker (sp?), Jimmy Johnson and Dennis Erickson. Turnover didn't hurt them. Butch Davis with Miami, Saban at LSU, Kifin at USC, Pelini at LSU, Chip Kelley at Central Michigan and Cinncinati.
I want someone who has something to prove and I will sweat it out every offseason and find the next big coach.

Again, someone posted that Patterson gave them a Curley vibe. That is certainly unwarranted. Curley prior to LSU compares to Miles prior to LSU more than Patterson prior to LSU by a wide margin.

Pelini?....I'd love to see him back. I think he's a great coach and I like a younger type guy with his enthusiasm. This hypothetical situation won't happen so it's all pie in the sky.

Rich Rodriguez to Tennessee would be great for both of them - and Michigan. Then UM gets to bring in Miles to save the program.

I think Miles would be successful in the Big Ten. At this point going 9-4 is a hell of a lot better than going 3-9 5-7. So as a UofM alum I'll answer at least for myself and most of my friends affiliated with the school that yes we still want him. (Not that we really matter)

If you talk to UM fans, yes, they do. They are willing to forgive his issues in favor of his obvious pluses.
Mainly being that he's a high character family man with Michigan ties who can recruit well.

Majority of message board posters are happy with RR and want to give him time.

I think Miles would do well at UM. And if RR is fired, which I believe is inevitable, then UM will not stray outside of the UM family for their next coach and Miles is accomplished, and probably more so, as any.

Saban wanted back in after Miles lost that FL game. If Miles had dumped another one that year, Saban was back. Never happened and he went to AL.

Saban has a dynasty in the making. We can hang it up cause the only time we will see him in TIger Stadium is when he probably beats us as AL head coach.

We can certainly agree on that. Patterson, small school/small conference though TCU is, is definitely a winner and a proven commodity.
