Les Miles: A Consummate Professional

With Chavis, Cooper and, potentially, Haley coming on board, and Mallory and Peveto (and others) moving on to quality positions elsewhere, it needs to be said out loud that our Head Coach, in addition to being an exceptional gameday coach, is a professional in every sense of the word. He goes about his job in a way best calculated to produce optimal results for the LSU football program, regardless of the outcry from impatient and uninformed fans. He treats his people with respect and compassion, even while requiring some of them to uproot their families in search of new positions. And he is an extraordinary role model for the young men whose development has been entrusted to him. Somewhere up there Bo is smiling. Who knows how it will all work out. But it won't be because our Head Coach didn't give us the best chance to succeed.

I asked him this today, I said, do you ever sit back and wonder with excitement, how it all works out, you go from feeling like crap after the Ark. game, to knowing you are going to have to make a change, to not having to fire your friends, getting a great gameplan and effort out of your team, you find some pretty solid coaching hires and are staring down the number one recruiting class in the face... he thought for a minute, and then talked about how he tries to always be truthful in what he does, and that he's always working to that end... went on for about 30 seconds and then finally said yes, it feels great.

Les Miles is a class act. Saban transformed the program into a major college powerhouse, by aggressive recruiting and funding. Miles has entrenched the program into the elite through doing business in a professional manner and building a culture of winning with class and dignity. He is truly a model for all athletes and coaches.

I love CLM, but he makes some boneheaded decisions on gameday. He has improved since he has been here, but there are still a few blonde moments.

When it comes to class, I would put Miles up there with Charles McClendon, and maybe even a notch ahead, which is saying something. Those of us who knew Coach Mac knew what a class man he was. It is good to see LSU with that again, and hopefully, it will be around for a long time. Great post.

This is a very fair assessment of Miles...I doubt you could find more than a handful of coaches in the country who would keep everything under raps the way he has since toward the end of the season. Makes you wonder what any of us ranters would have done in his shoes- make a quick decision & then regret it later?? Obviously Miles was secretly working on the matter in one way or another for some time, & everything appears to have worked out. I was just thinking back to the Curly Halman era- Do any of you remember him calling on the phone & firing our OC right before Christmas saying he didn't know how to coach?? He was a prior Georgia coach, first name George. Hard to believe Curley throwing someone under the bridge saying he couldn't coach--maybe he was looking in the mirror when he said that??
