They had a top 15 defense in 2019 and Diaz is overrated as a DC - I bet his defenses won't be any better than Baker's

Right.

He coordinated strong defenses with strong LB play that were near the top in the nation in TFL at LaTech and in 2019 at Miami.

In the pandemic year his defense fell back for a multitude of reasons, but we're not hiring him for DC, we're hiring him for LB coach.

Everything I've read and all the quotes I've read about him say he's well-respected at that.

And having a LB coach that knows how to coordinate an entire defense is going to be useful for an inexperienced DC.

T-Bob just mentioned that he "Baker" is seeking 700k, is that true?

I would have targeted DJ Smith.

His work with Akeem Davis-Gaither and Nick Bolton was very impressive.

Bolton might go in the 1st round.

Neither Williams and Baker have produced draftable linebackers. I prefer Williams though, but I don’t know what Ed is looking for here.

Meh, doesn’t make much sense when a guy like Travis Williams who has proven to not only be a better position coach but also a significantly better recruiter is out there

Hiring coaches is not like the NFL Draft. You don't just pick "Best Coach Available"

There has to be mutual interest, they have to fit (from a coaching and recruiting basis), etc.

There are a lot of variables.

Travis Williams has been unemployed for a month and several schools have passed on him.

That's what he was making at Miami under the DC role.

You don’t think Williams who had great success as a position coach and recruiter at Auburn would be a fit at LSU? Lol

While some Auburn fans rave about him, others say he failed the white board session with Mason miserably and sowed discord in the locker room during the BLM stuff.

We know for a fact that Orgeron and staff have put a huge emphasis on the white board portion of the interview this offseason (Arnett apparently failed badly).

Seems they're trying to build a staff of coaches that are highly knowledgeable about how a defense works and the gameplanning against opponents.

After last season, I'm ok with that.

The issue last year was Bo sign his contract and sat on his hands. Bo wanted lsu personnel to fit what he wanted and not the other way around.

I’m totally fine with this logic, if that’s the case!

I don't know and neither do you. These are not chess pieces you move about the board.

These are grown men, with families. They all have their own problems, bias, baggage, etc.

Some are great recruiters and average coaches. Some are the opposite. Some specialize in recruiting a certain geographic location that a school may or may not be interested in.

You don't know Travis Williams. You don't know whether his skills and personality are complimentary or duplicative to the current staff.

This isn't a video game.

Haven't heard anything about it falling through. The deal being discussed is one that would pay him close to what he was making at Miami

Welcome to 2021 college football. Texas is paying a tight ends coach over $1 million.

It's not your money. Why would you care?

Who is this "we"? Coach salaries aren't coming from my bank account. So, if the AD and Board are good with the salaries...I just want excellent play and significant wins. I never pay any attention to who gets paid what if it isn't a part of MY household.
