Probably two people we've never heard of, but come recommended by someone that once knew someone who was a former college roommate of someone who knew how to coach those positions.

LB and DL Coach
Will be a huge factor in determining Jones' success/fail.

With Freeman it appears we were willing to let him have near full control over the choice of backfill position coaches.

I wonder if that still stands with Jones. I would think he'd have a rather large say, but no where near full control of it.

I feel that to offset, or mitigate, the risk of hiring a relatively inexperienced DC those LB and DL coaches have to be very experienced and/OR have a record of excellent coaching abilities for the position group.

That rules Lacouture out. He has 2 more years on his GA, I say re-visit that then. 2 years under an excellent DL coach to learn, assuming that an excellent DL coach just might be getting DC offers in 2 years, is a good position to be in for LSU. A name I like (I liked him for consideration for DC) here is Charlie Partridge. What he and the other D coaches have done at Pitt is pretty good. He has a good track record and guys that played for him love him AND have been NFL ready when the Draft came calling. Other than Partridge, there's Karl Dunbar; it does appear he doesn't like recruiting, so that rules that out and I don't think the Steelers fired him.

The LB coach HAS to be one of the best. I know that's the goal, but our LB play (and thus coaching) has to have a monumental shift. Against the offenses we're battling now, they are the key. MSU didn't go deep on us; they threw in the LB coverage and then ran deep on us. LBs are always very important, but now more than ever. We HAVE to not just get better here- but get great. The DBs and DL will lose effectiveness if they don't.

Jones himself does not concern me. How we address DL development and LB play is the bigger issue to me.

You dont have to watch 10 min of a TB Bucs game now to see the difference in a Devin White type player on the field and what we had last season...
