Lane has coached as an OC for USC and got hired to Oakland as an NFL HC. He must have made an impression based on something. Raiders were a train wreck and no one faults him there. He got the UT job and bolted. He coached USC while short on the numbers due to sanctions. Saban had him come out and "consult" ie Saban felt him out. Lane still impressive and got the stuff. So he gets his OC to find another job so he can bring in Lane. What is the freaking problem. People who know a whole hell of a lot more about football are consistently impressed with Lane. Get over it.

Get over it? You kidding? I hope Bama is foolish enough to buy all that. It would serve them right.

BTW, his bowl consultation did wonders.

This. The rest just comes off as hating. I can remember SEC fans laughing at Cam Cameron, too, saying "he's been fired from the past two jobs he's had". Most LSU fans seem pretty pleased with that hire.

Maybe Lane offered Saban an opposing coaches views on how he would attack his defense if he were Stoops and how he would attack Stoops if he were Bama. Saban must have thought his work was credible. You have no idea what Lane did for Bama. To blame him for Bama's lack of execution if ridiculous.

To my knowledge Lane doesn't have any baggage or show-cause.

After the Cam at Auburn deal the NCAA showed us their true colors. I can promise you the last probation Bama got hit with did knowing to change anything. FSU LSU USC AU TN BAMA are one and the same.

Again folks a shite ton smarter than anyone on this board know everything and proceed. They can be wrong but they are not unaware.

The real question about Lane is this: With his buyout from USC why doesn't he just stay at home and bang his wife for the next year or so? If I were him, I would. I would get a pack of purple pills and some K-Y and do things to her that are illegal in 45 states.

I hope so

Even if he isn't a complete abortion in terms of coaching he'll undoubtedly do a number of other stupid things we can enjoy

Let me preface my following comments with this. I don't like Lane Kiffin, i think he's an epic douche.

But.

I think he has the coaching ability to be very successful and an OC. Saban doesn't allow his Coordinators to speak with the media. If there was ever a situation for Kiffin to restore his reputation, this is it.

That being said, I hope we pass on him.

it is completely possible he has the capacity to grow up and stop doing silly and embarrassing things

if he did that he'd probably be a decent hire. he's given some credit for quarterback development (although I'm such a Chow fan I don't credit him with anything related to USC's QBs)

But your last sentence would sum up my feelings if I were a Bama fan. He's high risk, potentially high reward. Bama doesn't have to take that kind of risk.

The best part of some of you "football fans" is your ignorance.

There are a lot of good coordinators that just aren't good head coaches. There are many examples of coaches in the NFL and college who have sucked at leading a team and went back to being successful doing what they did to get them the head coaching gig in the first place.

Irony is that LSU's current OC is an example of a coordinator sucking at being a head coach (he sucked at being a coordinator his last year in the NFL too), yet having success again back where he is a better fit.

Lane Kiffin is a douche, but there is no proof he isn't a good coordinator and play caller with a great offensive mind. There is also no proof he can't recruit his arse off because he can.

Keep thinking this will be a disaster, this will probably be the coaching move that keeps you up at night for the next two years.
