Lane and Robinson out as well?

With BDP gone officially and Mallory pretty much a forgone conclusion, that leaves Lane as the next to go and multiple posts on here have him going to florida atlantic, but bayoubelle or bayoubengal blog reported that Joe Robinson might leave also, looking for an NFL team. Not sure how accurate they are, it would seem to provide the best scenario for the rumored staff to be

LB-James Willis
DC / CB's-Dewayne Walker
Safeties-Corey Raymond
not sure who would handle special teams, maybe miles
but if its Chavis, he has a history of coaching linebackers, but i could see chavis doing a pelini and not being a position coach so we can still get willis and raymond does the whole secondary...anyone else heard that robinson was trying to get out?

Wouldn't surprise me the least bit to give a extra position coach to the defensive side. The offensive side is loaded with position coaches. About time Miles gives due to the defense. I don't think Miles would be the sole ST coach though, whoever he'd get probably would be a position coach on defense and ST coach. Robinson coached DTs I believe.

Will anyone go to NWLA? How about players? Who has interviewed for Special Teams coach in the past? Daye recommended Charlie Kelly, but that may have been for Saban. Miles interviewed them for other positions, as I recall. May have been DL and DB.

I was thinking about this, myself. I would prefer that we have a world class ST coordinator, but that seems to be a casualty of the "dream team" or (for those of us who remember and get this reference) the "Soul Patrol" - Coaching Version. Generally, the ST Coordinator (other than Beamer, who does it himself) is a LB coach or TE coach. If Henson remains Recruiting Coordinator (and it's hard to argue our results in recruiting, both recruit quality and compliance), then the next logical candidate is Willis. If Orgeron is going to be assistant head coach, but not recruiting coordinator, maybe Orgeron could do it. Neither Willis or Orgeron have ever officially coordinated a defense.
None of the rest of the existing staff has any ST Coordination experience, except Peveto (departing) and Robinson (likely departing).

I know that Beamer and a few other HCs coordinate their own special teams.
A TE coach or LB coach tend to be best suited to coordinate special teams, because their guys do a lot of the grunt work. The returners and head hunters are almost always RBs/WRs/DBs, but the wedge and wedge breakers tend to be TEs and LBs (and FBs, but how many of those does a team carry?)
Miles has coached TEs but never coordinated (officially, I don't know if he did at Okie State - he's always had a ST coordinator at LSU). Henson, if he loses the RC tag, could pick up the special teams duty, but he has no experience, either.

Meyer does it as well. They have a great system at Florida. Meyer runs special teams so they get to eat first at team meals and get first dibs on all bowl gear. Because of this, every player on Florida's team wants to be on ST. And if you haven't noticed, FL's ST are pretty incredible.

That is because we hired an O man. My HC would be a D man and coach STs. Then, it would be 4 and 4. How much do you think a RB coach can teach? Ha! Let a GA stand out there and watch.

I could see miles handling special teams or maybe just dividing it up among the staff, but another possibility is Charles Kelly from Georgia tech, he had good special teams at GT and coached at nicholls so more scenarios are
Walker=DC / CB's
O or Haley=Dline
Willis=LB
Raymond=Safeties
OR
Chavis=DC/LB
Same for D-line
Raymond=Safeties
Kelly=CB's/ST
OR Chavis=DC
Same DLine
Willis=LB
Kelly=DB & ST

STs win games and it is way more important than most notice. Kelly took the Special Team play from Nicholls and it worked at GT. Arnsparger was big on STs and taught the GAs. HC Daye was ST coach at Nicholls and took it to Southern and had outstanding results. Kelly was interviewed by Saban and Miles, as well as I remember. He is a real fine coach. Think we will see the DBs (which he coaches at present) in the bowl.
