Kneejerk Reaction Thread Of The Week
Posted on 11/6/16 at 7:05 pm

I think we need to have one of these after every weekend to keep track of all the kneejerk reactions of the TD coach search committee.
This week:
Ed Orgeron bad.
Dan Mullen good.

If take O over Mullen anyday. O could hire an OC and do ok. If u want to see knee jerk reaction just wait and see what happens if Herman and UH beats Louisville

Aranda for HC has to be the top one this week.

Offensive tackle recruiting is the only thing at fault for Saturday. Plain and simple. The coaching was as good as it could have been. You just can't be successful on offense when you can't block people, period. And the talent wasn't there going in to the game. How was everyone blind to see this? I don't know.

Lots of dummies.

If a guy beats Jimbo at FSU, stoops at OU and Petrino at Louisville while coaching Houston, it's not a kneejerl to want that coach.

I agree. I do remember a lot of good kneejerks after Houston lost though.
This thread is not about rational extended analysis whatsoever. This thread is about emotional short term memory epiphanies.

So are you saying we could have been successful without blocking (which we couldn't)?

No I'm agreeing with you.
Your post was spot on.
I specifically responded to your question, even though it might have been rhetorical:
Not even one of the greatest RBs to ever play college football could do anything.

quote:Nope. But Ole Miss and Arkansas sure could. We were more on the Kent State level of production against them.

Only our oline was to blame for it for sure. A better offensive gameplan would not have helped at all...

If a guy beats Alabama and Auburn in one season at Southern Miss...

This is perfect for the kneejerk reaction thread. I see several people arguing LSU lost because of inferior talent - especially on the offensive line - making OL recruiting and coaching the areas of major fault.
While it would be nice to have nothing but five star OL starting and 4 stars backing up the starters... that just isn't the issue when you put up zero points and have more punts than first downs. Arkansas and Ole Miss demonstrated you can complete forward passes in the face of pressure. In spite of how strongly people feel that Fisher doesn't have great offensive linemen, most people understand he still puts up points and yardage because he knows how to prepare his QB and skill position players for what to do when pressure hits.
Alabama is great, but they wouldn't have been able to do what they did on defense if our players were prepared to punish an 8 man front wherever the extra pressure came from. They wouldn't have been able to do what they did if the quarterback was able to settle down and hit more of the open receivers and more of the receivers were able to beat their defender. A lot of this is simply being out-prepared and out-schemed. Talent will not fix that - even if you think you can out-recruit Nick Saban.

This isn't kneejerk. Look at my post history. I called this before the game even happened. It's objective analysis.
Posted on 11/6/16 at 9:26 pm to Ripley
It is not objective when you look at the number of OL both programs put into the NFL.

This literally makes no sense.
