Arnsparger wanted to retire from coaching and become an AD. LSU moved in another direction after Broadhead and Coach A. went to Florida, hired Spurrier and the rest is history. Not sure if it was politics - can't have people demanding a job.
I don't blame Alleva one bit. Miles pushes big time for raises, wanting to make the OC the highest paid in CFB and two months later wants to fire him. Let Miles pay the buyout - it's less than 30% of what he makes a year.
Last year was him going against advice and promoting his friends. This all goes back to when he was first hired and was going to bring Bill Clay as DC and was told he couldn't. Because he won the MNC, he got 'even' - ergo the Co-DC disaster.
Miles gets credit for fixing what he broke. At some point, it has to stop.
He has not gotten along with any OC - not Gundy at OSU, not Jimbo, and now not Crowton.

Saban was recruited out of BR...he wanted to stay, but I think skip was tired of the NFL talk every year...
C'mon man, this makes you sound retarded. Saban had no interest in staying, he was secretly meeting with teams and floating his name out to anyone who would listen.

Straight from Saban "I made a mistake leaving LSU"...."I am a college coach"

NO DOUBT.
Its obvious, LSU has one real big problem and its Miles contract.
Everyone knows all the options. This sucks.

If Miles truly was loyal and cared about LSU, he would personally pay Crowton's buyout to improve the program.

Well, its official: Miles will be fired next year. This is a horrible business decision.

Miles and Crowton gone=throwing the baby out with the bathwater!

Wrong. If LSU continues to struggle and I suspect they will, Crowton will be fired next year, giving Miles one more year.

I disagree, Miles lives or dies with Crowton.

no way miles can use crowton as his scapegoat next year. miles got crowton the raise, and it looks like from what i've read today that alleva told him to live with it. miles tied his fate to crowton by getting him the big money, and it looks as though next year could be the last for both.

then alleva is just as guilty of next year's offense as Miles and Crowton are. Football is king at LSU, and you have to do whatever it takes to keep it in national prominace.

the frustrating part is we don't know how much damage could be done. How long and how much money, recruiting will it take to undo what he's done.
What i am hearing from you guys is alleva is treating him like a spoiled 16 year old and just took away the keys to his ride. That's great and all but not the best decision if you consider the future of our program
Remember, every one else is getting stronger, auburn, ole miss, Arkansas, Mississippi state will all be better next year.
Just like the mess the next president will have to clean up when Obama is finally out.

that's what I'm saying. We can win the SEC or, if our AD decides not to cooperate and make us keep Crowton, we could finsih 4th in the West.
The fact that our AD would make Miles keep Crowton is really mindboggling. You would think it would be the AD that would make Miles fire Crowton.
