Spurrier was a great coach and built something special at UF, he is not Miles or Coach O either.

That is $20 million more than Kelly’s contract, over three fewer years.
I hope Landry is not good at math.

I agree that the market is totally in disarray and programs are cropping up with money that used to be irrelevant which will shift the flow of coaching talent away from some of the traditional programs

Well the only way this is even remotely possible is if LSU’s Big Boy Boosters are showing up BIG TIME. Landry did show a willingness to accept that math in that situation

I just have this horrible feeling that Kifmuffin, will leave us at the alter in January. He's always been flaky.

I disagree with the second part.

Hear me out, for years we said Saban was a hired gun and was always going to leave bama. He was the hot name yearly. He never jumped.

Kiff for sure jumped a lot early, sometime laterally. 20 years ago. Ever since he was humbled he’s only moved upward. He’s been in Oxford for how long? Lsu would be an upward move.

Well, actually it’s what Verge wants to tender to Frank, but Landry scratched out Frank Wilson and wrote in Lane Kiffin. I have this from an absolutely unimpeachable source.

1. Your hypothetical offer:
• $120M over 7 years ? $17.14M per year (120 ÷ 7 ˜ 17.14).
2. Current SEC salary landscape (2025 data):
Using the published 2025 SEC head-coach salaries (Kirby Smart $13.28M down to Clark Lea $3.71M, etc.), the numbers give roughly: ?
• Mean (average) SEC salary: ˜ $8.27M / year
• Standard deviation: ˜ $2.30M
3. Z-score (how many standard deviations above the mean?):

z = \frac{17.14 - 8.27}{2.30} \approx 3.9

Yeah but this was all more wishful thinking than reality.

I think you're mad at the governor not me. I hope we spend whatever it takes to land kiffin. But the guy running the state says no.

With all due respect to the governor he doesn’t run this show as hard as he tries to insert himself into this process

What he actually said was they won’t have a huge buyout. To avoid handing out huge buyouts you give a very high per year salary.

If the offer is that high why wouldn’t they go to Kirby first?

These comments are crazy to me. We couldn’t have gotten Kirby in 2021, and that was BEFORE his 2 NCs. But have you not seen what’s happening in college football the past couple of years? Indiana, Vandy, Ole Miss, Illinois, SMU, Texas Tech, etc…have all entered the chat. You can’t just offer somebody a couple million more than they’re making now and expect them to take it. There are a ton more factors at play.

“I keep losing at deals, and I don’t want to make a deal anymore!”

Anyone that knows where that obscure quote comes from is ok in my book.

I'm seeing it around $13.5 - 14 million per year.
