I don’t think anyone is asking for a name, just some sort of qualifier. Football ops building, administration, equipment manager, trainer, janitor….

Once again, doofus Landry has no control over what we pay. The boosters will pay whatever the hell they want. It’s their money not his

If we did this, it would be so funny.

Like, when some dude is going through a messy divorce and losing all his money and got laid off so just says F it and buys a Lambo to show he's all good.

Can we get a clause in there that if he goes for it on 4th down on the wrong side of the 50 in the first half can be fired with cause?

It's the BOS making this hire.

NO ONE is worth that...

LSU needs to get a grip on reality.

Its embarrassing the way they chase the shiny object, and dont create their own.

Its not only if a coach is currently winning. Are they super competitive, even if they shouldn't be. Like TCU last couple years, e5c

This is what Grok told me yesterday.

quote:

Yesterday, I mentioned the rumored $15 million annual salary for Lane Kiffin if he takes the Florida Gators head coaching job—that works out to about $84 million over a 5-7 year contract, including potential buyout details from his Ole Miss deal. Based on the latest reports, though, the actual offer floating around is a six-year, fully guaranteed deal worth $81 million total ($13.5 million per year), which would make him the highest-paid coach in college football history if he accepts.

Chuck, is this supposed to be serious? Anyone with enough money to offer 17.5 per year is also smart enough not to overpay for Lane Kiffin.

If in fact LSU has that kind of bank roll then they get any coach they want including Kirby Smart. So why Lane? What exactly has Lane done to merit giving him.

Here is the breakdown for how mathematically unlikely it is that this is the offer. Here is how many standard deviations outside the norm that offer would be.

Short answer: right around 4 standard deviations above “normal.”

Here’s how that shakes out, making one big assumption:

We’ll treat “the norm” as current SEC head-coach salaries, since this is an LSU/Lane Kiffin scenario.

1. Your hypothetical offer:
• $120M over 7 years ? $17.14M per year (120 ÷ 7 ˜ 17.14).
2. Current SEC salary landscape (2025 data):
Using the published 2025 SEC head-coach salaries (Kirby Smart $13.28M down to Clark Lea $3.71M, etc.), the numbers give roughly: ?
• Mean (average) SEC salary: ˜ $8.27M / year
• Standard deviation: ˜ $2.30M
3. Z-score (how many standard deviations above the mean?):

z = \frac{17.14 - 8.27}{2.30} \approx 3.9

So a $17.1M AAV LSU deal for Kiffin would be about 3.9 standard deviations above the SEC norm for head coaches right now.

In plain terms:
• That’s way past Kirby Smart’s ~$13.3M (currently the highest paid at a public school). ?
• In a (roughly) normal distribution, being almost 4s out is astronomically rare—basically off the chart in today’s college football market

You either want to win or you don’t. Lazy hire and you can forget sell out crowds next year in Death Valley. You’ve gotta re-energize the fan base.

17 million a year for 7 years for a guy who has never won anything or fielded a competent defense is quite a haul.

I REALLY WANT TO BELIEVE YOU!!
I JUST DON'T KNOW IF WE CAN WAIT THAT LONG FOR A COACH. HIS TEAM WILL BE IN THE PLAYOFFS.
HOW BAD WILL IT HURT RECRUITING TO WAIT?

It’s more than a haul, it is load of shite.

LSU paying Lane Kiffin $17.14M/year ˜ 3.9s above the SEC mean

This puts it between the 3.5s and 4s probabilities:

Probability ˜ 0.004%–0.002%

Reasonable midpoint: 0.003%

So from a pure statistical perspective:

An LSU offer of $17.1M/year is a 1 in ~33,000 event given the current SEC salary distribution.

120M is a lot of money.
How much does Saban get from his career? Total salary is round 150M. 17 years at Alabama for 130M.

He said all that until the money people and those who really run the state told Landry to sit down and shut the frick up.
