How can he be mad one of his assistant coaches is doing the same thing he did?
Shoop is probably thinking he if he comes in here and does a great job for 4-5 years he will be hired as a HC somewhere or could be Les's replacement.

Can someone explain why James Franklin was seen as being an arse when leaving Vanderbilt?
Posted on 1/7/15 at 2:57 pm to St_rob
He did get some of his Vandy recruits to join him.
There was also that incident with the UGA player.

He decimated Vandys recruiting class on his way out and took several players with him to PSU.
The way it went down was very unprofessional.

He also helped cover up a rape.

The deal for Shoop to go to LSU. Basically, if we don't hear anything before next Monday, Shoop isn't happening and decided to stay at Penn St.
So, you are saying that the deal would be dead because Shoop would have backed out due to the pressure he'd getting from Franklin?

It was a pretty professional rape cover up though.

Franklin 8 months ago:
"Franklin said he wants his assistants to be able to achieve their goals, which in turn means the Penn State program has to be successful in order for the coaches to be wanted elsewhere. But, before Franklin digs out his growing list of candidates and updates it after national coaching conventions, there are a few stipulations he wants keep in mind.
"We can't have anybody leave for lateral moves so we're going to make it really difficult for guys to leave for lateral moves," Franklin said "I want them to feel like they can reach all their dreams at Penn State as well. We want to hold onto them as long as we possibly can, but I also want them to be able to do what's best for them and their families as well.
"If an opportunity comes across that's too good for them to turn down and makes sense for their family, there's not going to be anybody that's going to be more excited and more supportive of that than me. But until then you want to try and keep the family together as long as we possibly can because it's a special group of men."

I believe the two statements are mutually exclusive.
1. Franklin is annoyed at Shoop
2. If it doesn't get done this week, it's not going to happen.

So, is PSU DC to LSU DC a lateral move? Or a step up?

Thanks Sid. I needed that one. Just remember, 90% (according to sources) of your board is excited to hire a Penn State coach...

The recent issues there at PSU are the only thing that would confuse the matter. Outside of that, you have a program that, like LSU and tOSU, has an almost single-handed grip on a football crazy state. It may be in the Big 10, but PSU is a big job, and with the house cleaning over with and the Paternos in the rear view, they will be back in the big time in the next 3 or 4 years.

I'm assuming he is going to try and say its a lateral move but that would be bullshite since LSU will probably double to triple his salary

Just remember the most important thing in this "if momma ain't happy, no one is happy" and she wants the hell out of St College...

Well, they may not be in this case (the pressure from Franklin may rush Shoop into a decision one way or the other in the next few days), but it could be possible that Franklin could be pissed and Shoop's interest could carry over into next week. And it could be possible that Franklin was not pissed but Shoop would decline by the end of this week.

if this is true, Shoop is going to LSU. no way a HC gets in the way of his assistants promotions and the assistant allowing it. if shoop lets franklin bully him we don't want the pussy anyway.
having said that, I doubt this is true. coaches emotions don't make headlines usually.
