This isn't Brian Kelly leaving Notre Dame for LSU. LSU has actually won something.
Marcus Freeman isn't leaving a CFB blue blood like Notre Dame for Texas A&M.

Notre Dame is a has been, they haven't won a major bowl game in 30 years.
Even A&M has managed to do that.
Just from a resources and recruiting standpoint, A&M is definitely a better job.

1 BCS Title game (0-1, in Miami so you can add that to the Orange Bowl total)
3 Gator Bowls (1-2)
and a bunch of other bowls, 24 total postseason appearances.
Texas A&M
6 Cotton Bowls (1-5)
1 Sugar Bowl (1-0)
1 Orange Bowl (1-0)
1 Gator Bowl (1-0)
and a bunch of other bowls, 23 in total.
Notre Dame is 2-0 in bowls (both Cotton) vs A&M during this stretch, made more big bowls, made the playoffs once and the BCS once, which A&M hasn't.
Oh, but A&M has SEC resources, they COULD go... well, they'd have to beat UGA, Bama, LSU, now OU and Texas etc to get there. Notre Dame just has to keep being Notre Dame.

Taking the A&M job is coaching suicide. You'll make plenty of money, but your career will take a huge hit. They're too goddamn weird to be successful. They don't know how to handle it.

And also, why in the hell would A&M want Freeman? He has not accomplished anything, has not knocked it out the park at Notre Dame, and is about as far away from a sure thing as it comes.

But if we're honest
A$M has more resources than LSU...
A$M now has 80,000 students...good lord that's a city...
They've got way more money and clearly way more hungry as fan base perspective. It's crazy with all that in state talent they can't bust through but eventally they're going to. They're poised to be and awaken a sleeping giant
LSU is a lot of things...played for 4 national titles the last 20 years...best tailgating in the country... best looking uniforms...best mascot.. NFLU in many respects. Louisiana culture is more fun...
But we seem to be falling behind in a lot of areas relative to campus growth and renovations...
Baton Rouge isn't a great city... LSU needs money to protect its worth...
LSU needs a vision for its campus future... they're getting left behind...
