Sleeping giant TAMU
Only thing FSU has over TAMU is old records. If you take FSU's 6 years pre Jimbo and Sumlin's 6 years at TAMU, you get
TAMU 51-26
FSU 47-30
TAMU has the Texas recruiting base, Louisiana right beside it, and he still has ties to Florida. Money out the a-hole and people willing to spend that money for better coaches and shadow staff. The facilities are top 5, maybe even top 3, in the country.
It's easy to see that Jimbo needed a change of scenery. FSU had gotten toxic. I think financial security kept him there, but TAMU having an opening was perfect timing.
Nobody should expect year one results, hell even year two for that matter. He needs to establish a culture, get his offense installed, and get the guys who can run it.

LSU shouldn't be in this tier as long as the O is around.
LSU, AU, and Bama all went 1-1 with each other
the three teams went 6-2, 7-1,7-1
LSU with O, was still in their tier for the SEC west.

Do you really think that concern should deter a school from bringing in a top tier coach?

Per the contract that leaked that's 15 mil for what would be the status quo.

Do i have to say this again? I am not saying they should hire sub par coaches or not hire jimbo. I simply said that there's risks associated with this level of payment, and they should be considered. I honestly don't think jimbo will bring A&M to a bama type level yet he gets Saban type money. Overpaying and underdelivering is a risky game to consistently play when hiring coaches.
Yet, i have people trying to tell me there's no risk to paying that type of money and Jimbo underdelivering. That's simply not true.

Jimbo isn't getting Saban money, Saban still makes a lot more. He's getting Top 5 coaching money which is more than fair considering he is one of the 4 active coaches with a ring. He's also still in his prime age wise, has a reputation of rebuilding a program, is a stud recruiter who has assistants that are stud recruiters, and is a cultural fit with A&M in terms of his personality.
It's also not that big of a risk, more importantly it is a smart risk. A&M's AD brought in $194 million last year and is set to bring in a hell of a lot more if they can win big. I can't even fathom how much cash would flow into the program if they won an SEC or NC because of the size size, wealth, and rabid nature of the fan base. How would it make sense for instance to hire a "good coach" like a Fuentes for instance for say, $5 million (if you could get him for that) vs a far more proven coach in Fisher for $7.5? Short term you just put a HUGE injection of excitement in the program and proved to your donors you are serious about winning so people will keep writing those big checks and the priority of keeping season tickets just went up. If it results in a 10% bump in revenue that's nearly $20 million right there. The bigger risk by far is the program loses momentum and goes the other direction. You have to spend money to make it.
The other reality is that a proven winner is a very rare commodity. You have to overpay somewhat for one just as Bama did with Saban and continues to do so. Ever since A&M decided to make the SEC move they have essentially modeled Bama in terms of what they needed to do to succeed. Build the stadium. Build the facilities. Spend time and money on creating the right atmosphere. Oh, and spend whatever you have to to get the best coach you can. A&M has not had the results yet but it damn sure isn't from lack of effort.
It's also a falsehood to say "A&M has always had money". We really haven't. A&M was a school that had to play buyout games with LSU at one point as we still were a small, primarily male and primarily military school up until really 1970 or so. Then they started to build wealth during the 80's as the larger classes started to come in and give money. That kept building but A&M still was behind the big boys. The SEC has changed everything though. A&M has taken that slow and steady growth and put the rocket fuel of being the only SEC school in Texas on it and now it is a ridiculous cash machine.
Money is kind of like recruiting. It doesn't guarantee victory but it damn sure helps. You can win without money or recruiting but it's a damn sight harder, especially to do so consistently.

I cannot think of any reason why Jimbo would think A&M is a better job other than money
money and a change of scenery
Easier Recruiting now....He has Texas in state to only really compete with and LSU on few recruits...Where as he had Florida and Miami which both are tough to recruit against in years past

Right now? Absolutely. SEC money. Basically endless alumni support. Fantastic facilities. FSU is mainly just tradition at this point.

It kills some of y’all.
And it makes me grin hugely.
Thank you.

fisher has been unhappy at FSU for awhile. it was the only reason he looked at going to LSU. he didn't leave and tried to make it work, esp considering this family situation. he finally broke and realized that if he didn't take the 7 mil this year another opportunity might never arise.
TIMING is everything in getting your coach.

FSU: 20 miles to the GOM
A&M: Surrounded by hundreds of square miles of butt-ugly Texas scrub land.

I love my current job, city, community and life. But if I was offered a "substantial" pay raise ... I'd resign today. Probably leave everything on my desk including family pictures. I have duplicates.

I will throw out the name Dennis Francione. Looked like he had turned Bama around and then went to A&M. Relegated to obscurity.

No doubt. A&M is a great job. College station is a nice little town with good people

Are there former Gator WR personal trainers in College Station? If not, then A&M is the better job for Jimbo.

I think having the Houston medical complex nearby really helped us too.

No, but they offered him a lot more money.
