bc DeWayne Walker's been contacted by LSU...

quote:

Keeping the defensive coordinator – Walker has been approached by Washington, as well as Texas and Louisiana State – will be important in retaining key elements of the class.
LINK

per some other boards, Walker is going to be the DC at UWashington.

makes you wonder about Tenuta...

I read something on another board about him being up for the SMU job. Apparently he coached there at one point.

I could see him taking that job(longer contract, more money, bigger severance pay)

Could end up being Mallory for DC....who knows. But, I just would be suprised if Les doesn't have his deal done already.

If Tenuta gets the SMU job and it is Mallory, you have to wonder why Les didn't go after VanGorder and maybe Herring(maybe it's as simple as just wanting to hand it over to Mallory)

That said, Miles is bound at some point to give Mallory a shot. He's been with Miles awhile now. The upside is you don't shake up the staff that much and Mallory could keep the schemes the same.

I'd be disappointed if it's Mallory considering who we could have got, but I'd give him the benefit of the doubt. I'd give him a chance, not that is matters though.

Get Walker if it's not Tenuta, please Les.

You'd think Walker would come here. He'd most likely get paid better, work with better athletes, and probably have better job security. If he goes to UW, he might only be there a year.

It doesn't say when Walker was contacted, but we know Miles hires well and that means he looks around until he finds who he wants. Whoever is hired will do a good job, people should know this by now.

Yeah it seems like win-win for him here, not sure if he has some ties to Willingham or something, but it seems like a UCLA situation all over again going to work for a coach on the hot seat. He's the aggressive playcaller we want in Tenuta with a good recruiting rep and NFL ties. Let's do it.

If Mallory is the guy, why would Pelini be coming back for this game? I realize it's the NC game but it just seems like if he was the guy, Les would hand over the keys right now.

Maybe Les feels that the national title game is a bad time to have a different person calling the national title game and that Pelini is the best guy to do it?

Wishful thinking on my part, I guess.

All good organizations(sports team or corporations) develop talent internally and promote them. Les will make the right decision with Mallory or from the outside such as Tenuta or Walker. I don't have a problem if it is Mallory. Les has proven that he has an eye for good coaches and wouldn't promote anybody unless they are ready. Good coaches have to have opportunity for advancement just like we all like to get opportunities where we work. Builds long term success in organizations.

If it's Mallory, I'm sure some folks will be outraged/disappointed and I understand. And I don't know that much about Doug other than what I've read under his bio. But, he comes from a football family, and has spent a good bit of time coaching the defensive side of the ball.

He just might end up being a helluva defensive coordinator. Won't hurt to give him a chance. If he doesn't work out, we'll get someone else.

the problem comes when you give your friend a chance. will Miles be able to fire him if he's not a good fit and find the guy that is. or, would he be married to mallory win, lose, or draw?

regardless of whether mallory could be good, i'd rather that miles not put the team or himself in that situation.
