Not a troll if anyone perceives it that way. The question is would he want to leave his cushy TV job to get back into coaching. We all know the man can recruit, which is an unknown with Kris Richard. Chizik also might stay around longer than an NFL guy. I’ve seen his name linked to the search a few times. I was wondering if anybody knows if he’s still being considered.

He would be a better hire than Pelini imo

It's a possibility. Since the news of possible DC candidates is very quiet, one has to assume there are some serious candidates that have big-time jobs already and aren't wanting anything to leak out that would endanger their current job. Chizik has a big TV deal, others may be DC's at P5 schools. I'd expect a big name hire with all the hush hush going on.

Chizik and the Wisconsin DC are my top 2 with Chizik being more realistic. Both are homerun hires.

Apparently he’s not football intelligent enough

Pelini is the GOAT and a twice fired nfl defensive coordinator seem to be the preference

When is the last time Chizik had a dominant Defense?

2005?

Thats 15 seasons ago.

Can he stop modern offenses?

Of the rumored options at this point I’d gladly take Pelini

Chizik would be pretty damn good I think, but his candidacy never seemed serious for whatever reason

Chizik would be awesome. He's a proven college DC but out of all the choices he would undoubtedly be best for recruiting.

imo
Same here, but I think the facts of overall history back up our opinion.

ONLY APPLIES TO BO! not chiz!

i like chiz but his defenses at auburn were ranked in the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s nationally as a HC

right, his best days as a DC go way back. per posters here that disqualifies him!

I am gonna just trust O with whomever he hires

this could all be a smokescreen

may be a guy we least expect

Never said Bo wasn't. Just think Chiz is a better option.

I’m not in love with hiring either

But at leas Pelini has a few solid to elite defenses at Nebraska (#1 scoring in 2009, #9 scoring 2010)

The drop off happened when they moved to a much stronger conference.

Don't know. He has questions like Bo but you know you're getting a great recruiter with him too so it's just a bonus. He's a better option than Bo who has baggage and similar questions as Chiz without the recruiting ability.

Charlie Strong got fired recently as HC again right? Did he get picked up anywhere? He fielded some elite defenses at Florida and he's a lights out recruiter.

Auburn 2010 defense was pretty damned good. Yeah Cam was great but the defense kept them in the game until the mid third when Cam would start to have his advantage.

Not really. They had clutch moments but it was a pretty flawed defense overall

I would pass on Chiz as an DC. He was a great coach and is a better person, but I think the game has passed him and his style of Tampa 2

He’s my pick for sure.
