I looked at some message boards for Cincinnati, very rough by the way,... Tigerdroppings is the best!,... it seems the sane people their believe that Freeman is coming to LSU and were very thankful for his time there. Get off of me grammar Police.

Looking at their 24/7 board it seems they are semi confident in getting him back and think LSU is a risky move due to how bad our defense was last year.... lol

I mean...this really isn’t an unreasonable take. The fact of the matter is that staying with fickell is the safest move, while coming to LSU is riskier but with a higher ceiling. If freeman sticks with fickell, he is 100% guaranteed to have a P5 DC job within the next couple years—whenever fickell finally makes the jump—and once he gets there, he will have an extremely long leash, because of his loyalty to fickell. So if he stays with fickell, he’ll have a P5 DC job, as much job security as anyone could reasonably ask for, and a chance at some likely lackluster HC opportunities. If he jumps to LSU, he will have a(n almost certainly higher-profile DC job), middling job-security, and a chance to be *the* guy for the next wave of blue-blood HC openings.

Given what we saw from LSU’s defense last year, a decision to take our DC position would effectively be a decision by freeman to “bet on himself”. If he can turn things around, he could conceivably jump fickell in the rising-star coach rankings—but if he can’t, and he gets fired, it could completely tank his image and really torpedo his career before it gets off the ground.

If he does work out at LSU, he will be a blue chip rising star. If he doesn’t work out at LSU, people will peg him as having just ridden fickell’s coat tails, and he’ll have a LOT of proving to do.

Cincy = high-floor/low-ceiling for freeman

LSU = low-floor/high-ceiling for freeman

Edit: holy shite the purple and gold glasses people wear on this site are next level. Nothing in this comment is the slightest bit controversial or even negative towards LSU. If you think jumping to LSU would be a plus for freeman’s job stability, you are quite simply delusional.

Freeman is not going to stay at Cincinnati as a DC. That's not going to happen at this point. LSU is in competition for Freeman with Notre Dame, or if one or two dominoes falls and he gets an head coaching offer.

Or he takes the LSU DC job, improves the D. The offense is terrible. O gets canned mid-year. Marcus Freeman takes over in the interim and shows out, becomes the new head coach of the LSU Tigers. Oh, the irony lol

No, it is unreasonable

If LSU sucks next year, but Freeman does his job, his stock won’t be impacted at all. Les Miles was fired like 5 games into Dave Arandas LSU tenure and he was fine.

.....but making a reported salary of $600,000 A year vs Maybe $2,000,000 at LSU.

And what if Fickell turns into Hudspeth and missed his chance and Cincy starts to suck again?

I know nothing and have no source on this one, but I’m pretty sure if we land him it’ll be closer to 3 than 2. Maybe not 3, but upper 2s at least.

I would bet your house it’ll be $2.5 or little less. Maybe 2.3 like Pelini.

I doubt the offense will be terrible or that coach O is in any danger to lose his job next season, but you usually don’t put anyone with zero head coaching experience as the interim head coach but now that I have said that I don’t believe LSU has anyone on staff besides O that has head coaching experience.

Hell if LSU craters next year and Ed is terminated, Freeman might even get a chance at interim coach

Obviously that’s unlikely but still

He comes in at a time when LSU front has decided to return. So now he has some young talent and experience which equals depth and beef on his Dline. He has a returning secondary that while it got torched was not because of talent. It was being out of position. And now they have a whole season of experience. He has some young highly recruited linebackers in the wings that are here. So he would be coming in with a lot to work with. I would bet he has looked at the roster and knows what he has coming in and likes it.
