This might not be bad. They have some solid pieces committed. If this is to secure recruiting and fend off the hot seat talk without increasing payout or buyout then it’s not a big deal.

Just saw this. Champaign has lost it's mind with free tuition, Obama speech, and now extending Lovie.

9–27 overall, 4–23 in conference and never higher than 6th in the Big Ten West.

Idk. Its not like people are lining up for the job, and if they were, they would probably be better than Lovie.

I live pretty close to Champaign-Urbana and the town and university have been going down hill for years.

This is an easy thing for the university to do because they dont have to put any energy into it.

They better watch out with the improvements they are doing and the dwindling of fan support. This state is already in financial cahoots and destroying football and basketball will not help this university. Not to mention the things that I said above that are already dumbass things that they are doing.

Never good when your conference rivals are happy to see you keep your coach.

I just don't understand why it is so hard to win at UIUC.

I just feel light a real lightning rod recruiter could do some damage there. Tons of midwest territory for the corn fed lineman and Chicago for the athletes.

Folks are getting tired of sending their kids to left wing lunatic schools

Christian universities are on the upswing

That said, I’ve met Lovie and he’s a good guy

If you can catch 3-4 decent players out of Chicago every year you’ll end up with some dudes.

Jimmy Sexton is doing his work, putting out info that Louisville has contacted Barry Odom, and there is interest.

I’m less surprised the university wanted to extend him than Lovie actually wants to keep coaching here. He seems so disinterested most of the time I thought he was going to retire.

Illinois isn’t getting a name coach right now. If they were his name would have been Les Miles. Since he is gone the pickings are going to be slim.

I don't see the problem with this. It's not like Illinois was going to be turned around over night. And again, Lovie has only signed two recruiting classes so far, even though it was his third season.

They improved their win total this season, and the offense was pretty good, particularly the running the ball. They now need to sign some dudes to help out that abysmal defense.
