If Lincoln Riley is not your number one(realistic) choice, why not?

IMO besides l ,NS who isn’t realistic, Riley would be my number one and it’s not even close. Please explain why he isn’t your number one choice.

He is. But is it realistic, though?

I think people don’t think it’s realistic

I was thinking that Riley would be the first call but know that tRant has brought attention to him I know that it's unrealistic

I guess that would be the question.

He reaps the benefit of playing in a poor conference. He has the best athletes by far and still finds a way to lose a game or two, see Tulane.

The teams have looked better at year end, but I am not enamored with him, since it could be all fluff.

The argument is that OU is not as good of a job in the SEC as it is in the Big 12.

Whether or not he would buy that is another discussion.

If he's realistic...and it's looking more and more like he is. I don't think anyone could say he's not the best available option.

I'm not even sure I want to buy into the hype because it feels way too good to be true.

So who would be your number 1?

I’m love when posters say that Riley is not impressive because he lost a game, then proceed to recommend Kiffin. Don’t underestimate the Kiffin man crush fanboy love fest.

My concern with him is he has never had a competent defense. He would obviously recruit better defensive players at LSU though.

He is probably thinking that OU joining the SEC will allow him to recruit better defensive guys over there. I doubt he leaves.

He’s definitely a top candidate but I seriously doubt he would want to leave Caleb Williams behind.

I don't think it is realistic. Probably more of a cash grab to squeeze OU.

I mean, Riley would give us a puncher's chance of getting Grinch as DC (who is a Top 10 coordinator, easily, and possibly Top 5). Would qualify as a home run hire, IMHO.

The only knock would be that his defenses are almost always trash. I guess you could say he's a risk to move to the NFL, too. Otherwise, he's the top candidate and it's really not even close.

I love Kiffin too, I think he would be great here, but if Riley is realistic then give me Riley without question

They haven't played defense over there since the Clinton administration -he does have Alex Grinch who is regarded as one of the best coordinators in college ball.

I mean, we could have put 100 on them in 2019, but our offense literally scored at well once it got going.

Oh he’d definitely be. I just don’t think it’s overly realistic.

Fear of defense being overlooked.

Fickell is close. But Riley would be a great hire and probably a consensus #1 choice
