.....then why wait until their season is over to announce it?

I just read the Purdue AD saying that he wanted to name as new coach as soon as possible after the season is over. I understand that if the coach you are hiring is a current coach. But if you are gonna hire Miles, why wait?

Fresno didn't wait until their season was over to hire Tedford.

If Les is the guy at either Baylor or Purdue, then why wait?

There may be a reason. I just can't think of one. The nly thing I can think of is that while Les may end up coaching at one of those two schools the decision to hire him has not been made.

Les will wait to see what else is out there.
.
Also les will have too much repeat for the existing coach to announce before the end of the season.

I can't see les being successful at Baylor with his offense.

Les at Baylor would be so odd.

Purdue just seems like the perfect fit for him.

Les Miles is in no hurry to jump at the first job offered.. He will have plenty of interest and offers come in after the coaching carousel really gets going and jobs start opening up. While he may very well end up at Baylor, he definitely isn't jumping at the Baylor Job without first seeing what else opens up out there (Colorado, North Carolina, FloridaSt, Etc, etc)

And I would be shocked if Les Miles is Purdue's next coach... 0% chance he takes that job. Les Miles is way overqualified for that job and would not legitimately consider it.

Maybe they want some feedback from boosters...which will probably be negative

I keep telling my Baylor buddy, If Les goes to Baylor and has a prolific offense, I'm gonna blow my top.

After all Les did have a higher flying offense at OK State then we ever saw at LSU. The ability is probably still there in some of fashion. That would be just about right. Go to Baylor and open it up, score lots of points, and have the college football world stare in disbelief.

Neither school has a permanent head coach. Both are interims.

Well, it turns out Les now has the same Agent that Herman does. More than likely that Trace Armstrong is telling Les to hang tight because a couple of schools want Herman like Baylor and Texas and Trace can place Miles once Herman has a landing spot. Miles is a second choice for a few schools, so he is going to have to wait for some Herman sloppy seconds. If Les wanted Purdue and Purdue wanted him, it would have happened by now. There are just some pieces of the puzzle that have to fall in place before Miles can get his landing spot. I would also guess that Les wants to be in the south at this point due to his experience with the locale and the recruiting base.
