If Jimbo is realistic, then so is Riley.

Dude is right in the middle of the most absurd CFB contract of all time. No hyperbole.

If we are throwing enough money at this to poach TAMU’s coach, we certainly can make Riley an interesting offer.

OU has more money than TAMU? Look, nothing is more fun than prodding aggie, but I seriously doubt that.

I prefer Aranda or Napier, but if we’re going to run at something shiny then it’s Riley > Jimbo > Dabo. Unless Woodward just has a massive man crush on Fisher.

But, are they White Whale material?

I think Riley's buyout is something like 23% of remaining contract, so like 8M or so.

Based on the rumor that LSU folks think highly of Napier/Tucker... maybe Woody surprises everyone and breaks form. Recall that when Jimbo was the hire at TAMU, everyone unanimously wanted him + he wanted out of FSU.

I think the narrative that Woodward wants a marquee name > long-term results is overblown and lacking context.

Been discussed, but that’s if they fire him — not if he leaves for another job. More like 4M in that case I believe.

You're right for doubting.

To be honest, Riley is probably a more attainable option than Jimbo. Even if Scott is in a position to offer a Jimbo-like deal (which means a guaranteed $100 million), A&M is simply going to counter with more money. With Texas and OU joining the league soon, there's a zero percent chance that A&M will be outbid for Jimbo. Too much riding on what he's building. Too much to lose by starting over.

It won’t be about money if he comes.

Naw, Riley owes OU a little less than $10m if he leaves OU

(It used to be about $4m til he recently got a raise/extension)

This possibility has not even been acknowledged by our fan base. You think TAMU AD wants to keep him that badly?

While I can’t argue with that - he’s not going to take a pay cut.

From what I understand, the biggest difference between Jimbo and Lincoln right now is the desire to be at LSU. Jimbo has wanted to be here for quite some time. Lincoln is more of a left field thing.

Yes they do. Losing their coach who just beat Alabama to lsu and their old ad is not acceptable. They will pay him whatever he wants.

If he comes, it won’t be about money.

correct. was thinking same thing. jimbaw has made a fortune at TAMU already.

if he comes it will be about LSU having a higher ceiling to win early and sustain. he knows. he has done it here before with saban.

And it’ll be about where Jimbo wants to be. Who he wants to work for, etc.

I agree that A&M could just counter offer and likely keep him based on money alone, but you have to consider if he just really wants to coach at LSU. Jimbo isn't exactly hurting in the money department at this point in his life. If he can make similar at LSU and be where he really wants to be, then that is the only scenario I could see him at LSU. I don't want that to be the case if I'm being honest, but it's a possible scenario.

I completely agree with all of this, but he would definitely be getting paid. My next question is — unless Jimbo has been top of the list from day 1... how many CFB coaches are turning down guaranteed $100M?

Because whether he wants to be here more or not, that’s what you’re shelling out to get him.

It’s very realistic that Jimbo was pursued this summer when he got his raise. So personally (complete speculation) I think woody has wanted jimbo this entire time and he was probably top of the list.

Sure, that’s a possibility. You’d just think that he’d already be coaching at LSU if he wanted to be there that bad.

Not too often that a coach takes a pay-cut to take a different job, especially one in the same division as his former employer.

I’ve seen nothing to suggest that LSU is the holy grail for Jimbo Fisher. I could see him believing that it’s an easier job in some ways, but with an Aggie administration that never says “no,” and with Jimbo being able to consistently recruit top 5-7 classes at A&M (including signing multiple 5 stars from out of state), it’s hard to see him thinking that a move to LSU for less money is the best choice.

Never say never, I guess.
