I sure hope he brings Venables because otherwise we’re going to be in the same boat we’re in with O

It's not - into the Mel Tucker is the greatest coach since Saban and fits the best for a double pay raise

It’s hard to believe that they fire a coach that can’t coach either side of the ball, turn around and hire another coach that can’t coach either side of the ball.

when is the last time a coach won a national title that called the plays on either side of the ball? ie, called the plays during the season they won the title

I'd rather have Aranda or one of those young up and comers than Dabo. He's obviously had a lot of success at Clemson but I'm not a fan of the CEO model.

They instill their philosophy on one side of the ball though. It doesn't necessarily mean that they have to call plays.

I’m pretty sure Saban called that delayed blitz in the 2003 BCS game

sure, but Alabama has become more of an offensive juggernaut than a defensive one...just need to recruit well and hire good coordinators...Saban loses coordinators almost every year and still wins...just need to be a good evaluator of player and coaching talent.

To add to that, we don't really know if Dabo ever evolved to have his hand in the offensive schemes. He was never a coordinator but one thing is for sure, as CEO objectively he's WAY better of a hire than Miles/Orgeron. Even being a CEO guy he has done a very impressive job of building Clemson into a powerhouse, maintaining the recruiting juggernaut, and beating Bama on the highest stage possible. Orgeron and Miles really aren't a comparison. He'd be a homerun regardless what this board thinks.

He was a former WR and he typically has REALLY good WRs so there's that I guess.

People hate promoting coordinators at LSU because Archer failed...then they hate hiring someone from a G5 school because Hallman was a fail. Now, no one wants a CEO coach because of O.

The fact is, Dabo has been around enough to know what works and what doesn't work. And a head coach focused too much on one side of the ball could see other facets suffer.

Dabo is a great coach who has two titles under his belt. He would be a home run hire.

You don't see Dabo as kind of the same situation as Riley? Why would he leave Clemson for LSU? Clemson is a top 10-15 job, he's paid well and has a comparatively easy path to the playoff.

But the coordinators come in and learn HIS system (terminology, etc) on both sides of the ball. Usually as an analyst/coordinator in waiting. Then the players arent having to learn a whole new system every time a change is made like with Coach O. Always starting over.

The only reason it has worked with Dabo is because Venables has kept continuity on one side of the ball and Trevor Lawrence was a great college QB . Similarly 2019 worked for us because Aranda's system was already established and Burrow was smart /comitted enough to learn everything about Brady's system quickly. Most Qbs cant do that in one year.

Golly shucks Dabo has been in the national championship game just about every year for the last half decade. Some of you morons make me laugh. You're on board for Joey Freshwater and his eye-rolling antics, but you don't want a coach who's gotten the job done over the last 10 years because "aww shucks".

Saban doesn’t have an offensive system and his players have talked about the differences between OCs l. He’s just smart enough to make consistent hires.

Does he have a defensive system? You think his handprints arent all over both sides of the ball? Of course they are. My point is they arent reinventing the wheel every time a coordinator leaves like LSU was. And he usually pulls them off the shadow staff, so theyre already familiar with his system, players, strengths, weaknesses. Its nothing like when LSU has staff turnover and hires Bo Pellini without even an interview, or some other guy that Joe Brady recommended. Its more than just picking the right guy.

I seriously doubt that he’s even mentioned as a remote consideration. But yeah wouldn’t want him either- he just doesn’t seem like the kind of coach we want/need at LSU.

I do not think Dabo is coming here… I just don't think him being a CEO coach is a bad thing.
