There's a reason Miami of Ohio was called the cradle of coaches in the 1960s and 1970s.

Yeah I know that's his "dream job" but he should know there is only so much you can do there. If he has an opportunity to take over a big program I think he would give it a long hard look.

Ohio is a big state and FB was prominent in the MW, there are also a lot of D1 schools but if you are going to count guys like Sean Payton, who was born in Calif, grew up in Chicago suburbs, played at E Ill because he spent a season or 2 as an OC at Miami, the list will be much longer.

By the logic of looking at the last 10 years as a reason to only look at Ohio guys, it was stupid to hire Ohio guys in the early 2000's since in the 90's the coaches that won had not ties to Ohio.
Bill Mccartney no Ohio ties, did coach at scUM
Booby Ross no Ohio ties
Dennis Erickson no Ohio ties,
Gene Stallings no Ohio ties
Bobby Bowden no Ohio ties, wait coached at WVU, that borders Ohio
Tom Osbornre no Ohio ties
Lloyd Carr no Ohio ties, did coach at scUM another border state
Phil Fulmer, no Ohio ties.

The point is that we've done very well historically and the vast majority of our coaches have been Ohio guys. No need to change that if the right coach is available.

The fact that coaches from Ohio or with Ohio ties have been so plentiful and succesful makes it easier to stick with the proven formula for success.

Art Briles, unlike Curley has won at 2 places, with 2 different QB's. One of which followed him to BU.

The key word is if the right coach is available. Certainly scoop up Meyer if he's there and wants the job, but if he passes and you limit your self to just Ohio guys, because you've had success in the past or recently some Ohio nativies or guys that coached for a year or 2 in the state have won big, you are limiting your chances of success.

Look at it this way, there's a ton of D1 talent in Ohio HS, should you only recruit Ohio, or is it a good idea to also recruit near by states and Texas, Fla, Calf etc?

I don't know why people are saying Herbstriet would bomb as qb coach. As long as tOSU would get a good offensive coordinator and Herb can focus on recruiting, it seems like he'd be an asset. Plus, it's not like the guy doesn't know the position..
