I would not be shocked at a Mike Riley hire from Oregon St

matches LSU criteria, sitting head coach, has had success similar to what Miles had at OSU, style of offense and defense similar to LSU.
Might be our guy if Miles bolts.

Wouldn't be my first choice should Miles roll out, but I wouldn't be dissapointed at all with Riley.

Would be a very solid hire. Proven as a quality college head coach, with a good bit of experience in the pro's. I'd welcome the hire.
But I've heard in the past that Riley loves Corvallis and may have ties to keep him there.

Because he's been courted numerous times by numerous school, even by Alabama. If he isn't leaving for Bama, he isn't ever leaving OSU.
And I think he got that NFL bug out of his system, similar to Sabes, neither will go back to the NFL, IMO.

He turned down his alma mater in Alabama and turned down USC where he used to coach. The administration at Oregon St have basically said he has a lifetime contract

miles wins at a 2-1 clip in the SEC and we want to run him outta town. this would be an uninspired hire at best. 3 times hes finished in the top 25. 3 out of 8 years. and never higher than 18. what a fricking joke...

Agreed. If that SOB ever puts on P&G, we've lost our mind. He's about to be skull fricked on national television, and he'll be a first class prick in every intrview associated with said skull fricking.

Oregon State has absolutely no recruiting base, doesn't have the national appeal or money of Oregon. Riley routinely competes despite having maybe the worst talent in the league.
On paper, it might look like an underwhelming hire, but if you know football, you'd think otherwise.

Phil Knight has a lot to do with the success of the Oregon Ducks. Joey Herington billboards in Time Square, multi million dollar athletic facility they are going to start in a year or two. There is a reason that Oregon recruits nationally and gets guys like Derron Thomas, L. Seastruck, etc. from Texas and other States.

I know I'm glad the Saints didn't. I know MSU sure likes their guy. Auburn sure likes their guy with pitiful head coaching experience prior to their job.

Why automatically eliminate a host of potentially great HC candidates and limit yourself to such a small pool?

Just an observation.
call me naive, but i question the difficulty of some of the administration duties a head coach had to perform. they are probably more difficult/tedious than i give them credit for, but its not rocket science here.
i do want someone different than miles. i dont want a CEO coach anymore. i think those days are dead. dont you see what happens when we use good scheme/coaching on our team? the defense is great. imagine doing that on offense, too.
