Did we make a serious push for Riley? Did we ever talk to Aranda? And how the heck did SW convince Kelly to come here and when?

The entire Riley to LSU was intentional smoke to hide the hiring a of Riley to USC and Kelly to LSU. It was mutual and Riley never had any real interest in coming to the SEC because he’s a scared little pussy.

I believe Riley was told it was his job if he wanted it . Just hard to not see it that way. Everyone knew it was gonna be Riley until he backed out for usc

Timeline seems pretty simple to me now that we know the guy:
- Woody wants an established playoff coach and has a blank check to get them
- Woody puts out feelers for Kelly, Riley, and other big names
- Woody decides to pursue Kelly as candidate #1 (Riley was likely high on this list too, but lower)
- Riley’s agent, very likely knowing that LSU is off the board, puts rumors out there fueled by burner OU accounts with lots of real details to sell it, all with the intent of leveraging USC. Leaks details from LSU conversations to approach that ridiculous paycheck he’s getting
- Aranda was never considered because of Title IX/Culture concerns - it’s been said that Woody wanted a coach with no ties to CLM or CEO - he has ties to both.
- Napier and others were never considered because, as advertised, Woody had his man, and they were lower tier candidates in Woody’s mind
tl;dr we thought USC cranked us but we actually cranked USC, and were the first to get our coach in this search, just behind closed doors while Notre Dame finished their season

There are reports that USC went to Kelly first, and was told no. Riley was their second choice. LSU apparently never offered Riley because they already had Kelly in the bag. The Riley to LSU rumors were never based on anything factual. You don’t land a coach like Kelly, in the midst of a possible playoff run, in 36 hours.

That's what i think people fail to realize.
It wasn't like he missed on riley and pivoted to kelly that quickly.

My version of events: After Woodward does his vetting and compiles a list I think he put out feelers to several coaches to gage interest. I think Kelly was his number one and after getting positive feedback SW began negotiations with Kelly and locked him up several weeks ago. Someone got wind of Riley being contacted and SW getting his guy and everyone assumed that guy was Riley when it was Kelly all along. The rest is just CCB theatrics and dramatics.

If you're looking at Riley as someone who fits what you're looking for and miss, you pivot to kliff or lane or Fickell even. You don't go to brian freakin Kelly lol
