No sources, but from what I gathered, Verge is a good man, will do right by Lane, and allow him to finish what he started at Ole Miss.

When the transfer window opens Kiffin would put LSU in a position of multiple years of post season bans if hes recruiting for LSU, while coaching at Ole Miss

And there arent enough nice guys at LSU that will allow that

Plusssss, he has to still be under contract with Ole Miss to do that. which means he could simply tell LSU hes changed his mind, after the spring semester starts

Verge may very well be a good man but he needs to remember the source of his salary and it ain't the State of Mississippi nor Ole Miss.

I wonder if Verge was the only one willing to wait, and that had a part in tipping the scales.

Lane Kiffin won’t be allowed to coach Ole Miss while he and a portion of his current staff are recruiting for LSU with signing day in less than a month.

Ole Miss wants to hire Lane’s replacement. Only problem is they can’t while Lane is still employed. See the problem with the calendar now?

That's fine if he signs with LSU and let's it be known.

As an LSU fan, I want him to coach. What do you think?

Early signing day is December 3 and the transfer portal opens on January 2. I want him in Baton Rouge solidifying our 2026 recruiting and portal class.

From LSU’s perspective, nothing good can come from letting him coach through the playoffs. He can’t recruit for LSU while he’s still the coach at Ole Miss.

At minimum, that means he won’t have an opportunity to make a pitch to high school recruits prior to early signing day.

If Ole Miss makes it to the semi-finals, now he’s still in Oxford when the transfer portal opens.

If Ole Miss does make a deep run, will it cause him to rethink leaving and potentially leave LSU hung out to dry in mid January after every other candidate is no longer available?

As an LSU fan, you don’t want us to have our coach for early signing day?

I don’t. If Lane wants to coach, LSU allows him to, other schools are allowing their coach to, I could see it happening. I think it will, >50% chance he coaches the playoffs IMO.

Some sort of agreement would have to be made to allow him to recruit for LSU. History says he won’t, but wouldn’t doubt it.

This is why Lane got fired at Alabama. Either coach your team or leave.

Your thinking is so flawed. A coach from N Texas being allowed to coach in the playoffs (which its not likely they make it anyway) before going to Okie State is not at all comparable to the HC of Ole Miss leaving for LSU.

Two completely different animals. Would LSU allow it if some type of agreement could be reached? Possibly so. I don't think there is any chance Ole Miss allows it though.

The N Texas and Tulanes of the world aren't going to be mad that their coach gave them great seasons. They expect them to move on. Ole Miss does not.

The whole damn system is flawed. Which is why I don’t think it’s out of the question.

I think it’s a mistake letting him coach the Egg bowl. You could put a dagger into 2026, and maybe even longer if he doesn’t end up at LSU, if they wait until after he’s done with the playoffs.

ETA: This goes for Ole Miss too.

That would be stupid. Although they'll have an excuse for losing in the playoffs, I guess.

Depends on the details.

If there is an announcement and a signed contract for Lane Kiffin to be our coach next year...and an agreement to let him finish coaching Ole Miss thru the playoffs...

Im good.

That hurts Ole Miss...not LSU. Im fine with it.

Not sure how Ole Miss lets that happen.

If North Texas makes the playoff that is a completely different deal.
