I remember the day it was announced that Nick Saban had been hired by Chancellor Emmert.

At the press conference, it seemed to be a total surprise choice. I believe Mr. Emmert said something to the effect that "if you want to catch a big fish, you have to get into the deep water." Obviously, prior to tweeting and everybody qualified to speculate, but the AD will do whatever has to do to get the best possible coach he can. Gonna get in the deep water!!

One of the most poorly worded titles I’ve read. Wow.

Yep. Not grammatically correct for sure.

I remember most of the fanbase bitching over the hire.

"who is this guy?"

"we're paying him how much?"

Then after the UAB loss woo boy.

Tried to edit it some, hope it's better. Appreciate the humorous responses. I actually did graduate from the 8th grade.

Also we had beaten his MSU team pretty good in a bowl. People were not happy with the hire.

Was Tweeter even a thing in 1999?

Then LSU beat Tennessee the following week as huge underdogs, so most people saw that we could win.

Who was the AD that hired Nick? Wonder who the other choices were.

Then you are in the 1%. lol Hardly anyone knew anything about Emmert back then. Emmert was hired by LSU in April 1999 and Saban was hired in December 1999.

The overwhelming, vast majority of LSU fans hated the Saban hire. He lost to Dinardo in the Independence Bowl and had a mediocre to above average tenure at Michigan State. None of his assistantants came with him and everyone said it was because he was a major a-hole and no one would want to work for him.
