The best part if it is Jimbo (not saying it is) will be the melt from A&M.

By far that entertainment would be worth it.

Where do you live in Iowa? What are your ties to LSU? Are you apart of the LSU Des Moines group?

After the obvious LSU stole our coach melts, they'll be fine with it. They might end up with a better coach.

This is what scares me, and I posted it in a thread or 2 a week or so ago. A&M would be so embarrassed that we took their coach and so desperate to save face and hire one that will help with UT and OU coming and inevitably hurting their recruiting (how much? I don’t know, but it will be some), that they may go crazy.

Lincoln Riley isn’t giving up what he’s got in Norman to come to Baton Rouge for $12 million as opposed to $10 (hypothetically—I don’t know how high each school would go, but I doubt we outbid OU by any more than $2 million per). But he may have to listen really hard to $150 million over 10 years guaranteed to go to College Station. And whatever other perks they could throw in there. He and his wife are both from Texas—where each set of grandparents live? LSU’s not gonna lure him away with pure money. But A&M might. Or someone like him.

That’s one thing a lot of LSU fans aren’t really considering. Top coaches make so much money now that simply outbidding their current school isn’t gonna do it unless you REALLY outbid them. 20 years ago, big difference between a guy making $400k and $1.2 million. But $10 and $12? Meh.

And yes, the LSU job is top 5 in a vacuum. If there were a Harvard graduate school for college football coaches and the top guy in the class got to come out and choose between Oklahoma and LSU, of course he’d choose LSU. But we’re not in a vacuum. Timing matters so much. Riley’s been in Norman almost 8 years now. He’s got a wife that probably has a lot of friends there. He’s got 2 young daughters that also have friends there. Probably go to a great school that they love. Probably live in a nice neighborhood with neighbors they enjoy. Friends they’ve made. Maybe a church they attend where they love the pastor and the congregation. Maybe a lake he loves to take his girls tubing. Or a secret spot he’s discovered near a brush, just off the bank, where the fish are always biting.

Oklahoma has a Republican governor, whose conservative values may be more in line with the Riley’s’. I also think I saw where they do a good bit of charity work there. He is the king of Norman, Oklahoma. And his wife is the queen. They have set roots, formed friendships, tied bonds. They’re a part of a community. He’s not giving all that up to make $12 million per year instead of $10 million (though I think OU would probably go $12 if they had to).

And there’s job security concerns for not only him, but his entire staff, most of whom he’d be asking to uproot their families to follow him as well, though they won’t be making the same kind of money as him and will be the 1st ones sacrificed if a season goes sour. Nothing happens in a vacuum. Timing matters so much more than has been given credit for on here.

That’s why unless something crazy and unexpected happens, it’s going to be Jimbo. All the “home runs” are already winning in good jobs. Otherwise, you wouldn’t consider them “home runs.” You can’t just dangle a couple more million at the top guys already making a bunch of millions and poach them. The only reason we have a shot at Jimbo is because of his prior relationship with the city of Baton Rouge and his long-standing relationship with Woodward. He’s not who I want. Isn’t gonna excite me. Not gonna get my panties wet. But it’s who Scott Woodward is gonna hire to be the next head coach of football for a Louisiana State University.

Cannot wait for the complete fricking melt of this board when it is NOT Jimbo, which from the start he wasn't leaving A&M, and its Napier or Cristobal.

Did you actually read this thread? Did you even read the OP? Or the post literally right above yours?

Saban has been offered the world and has never left Bama. At some point money is not the object, legacy is

Smart, Saban, Riley, Harbaugh, B. Kelly, Day are not leaving their schools unless fired. Tucker, Fickell, Cristobal are not leaving this year.

If you want to settle for less, this was supposed to be aTm’s year. Perfect schedule setup. Repeat of 2 loss Les. I think he is a smoke screen.
