Yes Brady is the exception, but we can’t just go after any young assistant who is fresh off the tit. Give him PGC duties if he is showing potential and let him show us he is worth the risk.

Big difference is Callaway was actually an OC before coming here. Not the same.

I feel like if Callaway was the answer we would have seen some of that this year.

“But the last two games”

He was on staff the first 8 too.

Thank you

The offense was exactly the same

The calloway talk is crazy
He couldn't even bully steve e into changing the offense some?

If he was so great some of his ideas would have been listened too

I think he did a great job with the qbs and is a good coach but i wouldn't give him reign over the entire offense yet

Let him coach qbs and help out for another year

I thought you saw plenty with the development of the true freshmen QBs this year. How much input do you expect him to have over a veteran oc and veteran nfl head coach

Right so his resume is being a great FCS coordinatorZ idk why we go with that over a guy who has coordinated a great FBS offense.

People debate giving Esminger or Brady credit, how the hell would we know how involved Callaway was in anything with Linehan and Esminger having more senior positions than him?

When things are this bad and he’s supposed to be some heir apparent? A lot.

If O thought this guy could be our OC this year he needs to be in that room with Linehan and E.

They’ve already read puff pieces and decided he’s the next Brady. They also would hade promoted Munoz last year based on similar articles

The only reason Callaway’s name is being mentioned is because he’s currently on staff.

No on is pushing to hire any other FCS coordinator.
Houston Baptist has had a great offense the last few years. None of y’all can name their fricking OC.

At least do a little research before making ridiculous statements.
quote:

Russ Callaway, a 2010 graduate of Valdosta State who has been on the fast track up the coaching ladder.

Callaway most recently spent five seasons on the Samford football coaching staff, including four as the program's offensive coordinator. He coached the team’s quarterbacks after overseeing the wide receivers during his first two seasons on staff.

quote:

As a unit in 2018, Samford's offense led the nation in passing yards per game (392.7) behind the arm of Devlin Hodges, who earned his first NFL start as a rookie with the Pittsburgh Steelers this past season. The offense ranked fourth nationally in total offense (515.9 ypg.), and eighth in both red zone offense (.898) and first downs (298).

Callaway was part of two BCS National Championship teams at Alabama, where he worked on Nick Saban's staff as an analyst. He's the son of Neil Callaway, who was UAB's head coach from 2007-11 and most recently spent three seasons as Southern Cal's offensive line coach.

quote:

“He’s very smart, very intelligent, knows football and I think the most unique thing about him is that he’s worked on both sides of the ball,” said Iowa running backs coach Derrick Foster, who worked with Callaway at Samford. “He has it. He has the tools. He has the ability. He has the mindset and can coordinate an offense. He understands how to cater to his players. And he’s full of energy. I loved being around him, enjoyed coaching with him and can’t say enough about him.”

Both Brennan and Max have credited him with their development and prep.

Yeah, well, good luck trying to lure a current, successful OC from a program that you would consider on par with LSU. That guy's either about to get hired as an HC somewhere, or will hold out at his current stop until he has said opportunity.

Why he was on Enmsinger's hip all season long. The guy knows offense, and someone will take him if we don't.

This board will turn on anyone. Callaway was everyone's darling here and I guess I missed where all of the sudden he's FCS trash.

Did i say he was trash?? No. Stop assuming. I said comparing being OC at Samford to OC at LSU is not the same. Hell that’s basically like being an OC at a 5A school. Just saying i would like to see him prove himself before we just gove him the reigns. Not that hard to understand.

Well of course it's not, but people have to start somewhere, and if he knows offense like EVERYONE says he does, he's one to hang on to. I'm sure he could figure out how to be an OC at LSU no problem. You take a chance on people like this or watch them blow up at another school.

So then we should just give the job to anyone with a years worth of OC experience? Is a decent resume hard to ask for? Bc yall sure would wine like bitches if we hired him with little experience and he turned out to be a bust. And like i posted above, i like him just wanna see more

His resume at Samford is pretty damn impressive. That on top of all the praise he's receiving from everyone......you want him to beat up Saban first?
