Why the hell would you want Jimbo?
1) He just beat Saban, while playing his backup Qb
2) He had the #4 team in the nation last year
3) He knows offense
4) He has two rings
5) He developed Russell, Flynn, Winston, Mond, Mauck
6) He can beat Saban
7) He wins 80% of his bowl games
8) He goes to a bowl game every year
9) He produced a Heisman winner
10) He has 3 coach of the year awards
11) He beat Saban. With a 2nd string Qb
12) He likely wont move again

There’s no doubt he is a very good coach and excellent recruiter, I just don’t know if he has the potential to win another title in modern CFB.
He just beat Bama with a shite QB. He's also had some let down losses so there's no guarantee, but he's shown he can win big games.
Unfortunately the same can be said of Malzahn so there's always risk.

If you have a feeling it’s Jimbo, it can’t be good. There are better candidates.

That feeling is just gas…it’ll pass in due time
Posted on 10/28/21 at 3:29 pm to BayouCowboy
Jimbo would do well here, no question IMO
Like all candidates, I would have concerns. Mainly with the 10 year guarantee and motivation to be the hardest-working coach in CFB.

Please list the signs that are pointing to this!

(Insert your same gif here)
He may know HIS offense but HIS offense gets shat on constantly even by his own fan base. You are dumb. 1-12 all dumb.

I don’t think his offense will win championships, and I also question how much drive he would have to put in 24/7 110% effort if he’s guaranteed 10 years and it’s basically his last job before retirement
I think this is a fair worry, but I think he'd have better athletes than he's ever had at LSU and we have some legitimate QBs coming through now.
His offense would be pretty damn good I think.
quote:
To your point, he absolutely is miles better than our previous 2 coaches, but that can be said about just about every candidate being discussed
True, but I also think he's got the most experience running not 1, but 2, major college football programs for a long time. No other candidate can say that. He won a title at one and has finished in the top 5 at the other.
Dude has a resume that shits on almost every other realistic candidate.
I think he has the highest floor of any candidate FOR SURE. 10 wins and top 5 recruiting classes on repeat.

Can ya'll believe it... we have 5 or 6 more weeks of this nonsense.

One of only four active coaches to win a natty.
Highly ranked year after year with mediocre talent and coaches.
Beat Bama.
Mediocre talent? Their last three recruiting classes have been ranked 8, 6, and 4. They're going to lose at least 3 games in a year they were supposed to compete for the title.
And if they have mediocre assistants isn't that on Jimbo?

Alabama isn't Alabama this year
quote:
2) He had the #4 team in the nation last year
Fake season with an incredibly easy schedule
quote:
3) He knows offense
He hasn't shown that he knows offense in his 4 years at A&M
quote:Going by this logic, Ed Orgeron has 4 rings
4) He has two rings
quote:Same amount of wins as Orgeron against Saban
6) He can beat Saban
quote:This doesn't get you the job at LSU
7) He wins 80% of his bowl games
quote:He literally missed a bowl game in his final season at FSU.
8) He goes to a bowl game every year
quote:So did Ed Orgeron and Kevin Sumlin
9) He produced a Heisman winner
quote:He has 1
10) He has 3 coach of the year awards
quote:Les Miles beat Saban with Jordan Jefferson and Jarret LEE
11) He beat Saban. With a 2nd string Qb
quote:This is irrelevant
12) He likely wont move again
quote:Russel was a physical freak who "Developed" enough to burn out. Flynn and Mauck were really nothing special, Winston was the #1 quarterback in the country who actually had MUCH worse numbers in his second season as a starter, after a year of Jimbo.
5) He developed Russell, Flynn, Winston, Mond, Mauck

Mond

I noticed you failed to post a bullet list of who you think is likely to get the job.

It would definitely fit the Woodward profile, since he signed him before.
Posted on 10/28/21 at 4:28 pm to Geauxldilocks
Saban screwed us with his timing. Probably could have had Urban Meyer or Steve Spurrier if we would've known a month earlier.

Pointing out that Aggie fans are reactionary retards like we are isn't exactly a great argument against him.
His offense got A&M an Orange Bowl win and a top-4 finish just last season.

A 10-game conference schedule in the SEC West was "incredibly easy" compared to an 8-game conference schedule with some OOC cupcakes?
Some of you guys really don't need to make shite up to justify your opinion.

Jimbo will be the hire barring another turn of events like we have seen in the past. Still a month before it could be official. So anything could happen. Do I know this for certain? No. Have I been told some things like VolTiger that make be believe this? Yes.
Why would SW want Jimbo? And why would Jimbo come here?
Jimbo has no buyout if he leaves. (When did this originate?)
Jimbo wanted the job before and it seemed it was going to happen and then it fell apart, seemingly on LSU's end. Jimbo knows his chance of another Championship is much greater at LSU.
Jimbo and SW are very close. SW picked him and gave him a huge contract. What would make his opinion of him change since then?
And, with this relationship in mind, it is hard to imagine either Jimbo or SW playing games over this. If either was not intent on sealing the deal, you would expect they would let the other party know.
SW has seen how Jimbo runs a program. If he hires him, he knows exactly what he is getting. Other active coaches mentioned would be guesses.
Jimbo knows being in Louisiana gives him a huge recruiting advantage. In the last 3 years he has only gotten 2 Louisiana commitments at A&M. Being at LSU is a massive upgrade for him. SW knows this as well. He has relationships all across the Southeast while recruiting for FSU and now has strong relationships in TX.
Jimbo knows the addition of Texas and OU to the SEC changes the landscape of recruiting in TX. He will no longer be able to recruit with the caveat that "if you want to play in the SEC, you can't go to TX or OU." He knows Sark and Riley will take advantage and A&M loses this advantage.
Jimbo is available immediately after the regular season and could work to salvage the recruiting class.
Jimbo has proven he can win. He is one of only a few active college football coaches with a National Championship.
Now, saying all of that. I am not sold on him coming to LSU. Is his offense up to modern standards? Can he sustain a program? Does he allow things to happen off the field that will ultimately bring the program down. Do we want a coach with such a ridiculously high buyout that I am sure he would be given? Definite question marks.
IMO, all these names circling are purposeful leaks to take the attention off Jimbo. Of course, the info Voltiger, myself and others have gotten could be doing the same thing.
Only time will tell...
