This is also his first HC job, and he’s far better in his first job than most candidates are in their 2nd or 3rd.

Most coaches don't take over a program like Oklahoma in their first job.

Only one I can remember is Kirby and he's been fairly successful as well.

I don’t really think so. One resource that’s pretty important is tradition and that includes achievements. LSU baseball sells itself. Up until they just did the last construction, their facilities were not very good either.
Back to Riley, that tradition thing I just pointed to, LSU football has a tradition of great defensive backs, maybe you heard of DBU? Kind of like with baseball, the brand recruits itself, so to say Riley can’t recruit defensive guys or has the same resources for defense at Oklahoma is not accurate at all

OP is making a good case for Riley and can’t even see it.

I never said he wasn't a good coach, I just don't see him getting over the hump.

This. The dude's already 38. He's definitely peaked as a coach.

Maybe he don’t get over the hump at OU, maybe he sees that too. That’s why a change in scenery could be beneficial

Since taking over Oklahoma Lincoln Riley is 53-8 and has made the college football playoffs 3 times and a New Year’s Six bowl win.

He’s arguably the best offensive mind in College football and would immediately provide stability on one side of the ball. If u have a chance to get a guy like Lincoln you make it happen.

Riley is a proven winner and you know what to expect from him. That’s not say Napier or Fickell wouldn’t do a good job here but Group of 5 coaches flame out all the time. Examples like Scott Frost and Neal Brown etc... It’s always a high risk high reward.

You’re crazy to think Riley wouldn’t be a home run hire!!

He wouldn't see a major bump in talent, Oklahoma recruits about as well as LSU on average.

He would recruit better at LSU. There can be a huge difference between a top 10 and top 5 class.

I'm not saying I want or don't want Riley but to base recruiting off stars is not always wise, it's evaluation of stars. I think Saban has had us take 5 stars based on him saying he wants so in so and we brag about bagging a LA. Kid they didn't want. See TM7 as example !

This is similar to the baseball coaching search when Bianco's name was being floated around

Bianco has 1 CWS appearance in 20 seasons

Riley has made the CFB playoffs every single year he's been a HC

This is not even close to being "similar"

Riley is elite. Who cares if the NFL comes calling? That would mean he was successful at his college gig and that’s a good thing!

Who’s to say that Fickwll or Napier wouldn’t bolt foe the pros of the opportunity arises?

Sure but I’m not about to give a scouting report on every Oklahoma defensive player to win a message board argument, so I will shorthand with stars.

Sidewalk, I'm afraid you're wasting your breath. Posters on this board see a coach beating weak teams in a bad conference and making the CFP, only to lose every single time, and they get really excited, clamoring for him to be the next LSU coach.

They also love to sit and stare at shiny objects.
