I like Orgeron as a person and a d line coach, but let's not compare him to a Super Bowl winning head coach

Also why didn't he do this at Ole Miss?

It was his first gig

Sheesh

How were you the first time you did something? Ppl keep bringing up OM but noone says shite about USC or LSU where he's done well.
If you want a big pretty name thats fine but at least look at the whole body of work when discussing Coach O

Miles did well in his first gig. So did Jimbo. So did Herman. So did Willie Taggart. So did a large number of very successful coaches.

Why should Coach O get a pass because it was his first gig, and not any number of other coaches who didn't get interim gigs (at fricking USC and LSU of all places) to show that they "changed"?

you cant just sit here and blindly pretend ever situation is the same. Jimbo was at FSU for 3 years before taking over, he had plenty of time to assess and prepare things.

dont pretend winning at Western Kentucky is the same as winning in the SEC West.

Herman took over a team that was 8-5 in the previous 2 seasons, it was already a good team, and again, its the AAC.

Why is it that Coach O gets every excuse in the world, yet somehow what Willie Taggart has done at two coaching jobs something you can write off so easily? It's supremely confusing.

So we should consider every angle and make every excuse for Coach O's terrible first stint, including that he was completely out of his element there, yet not do the same for other coaches?

I mean, what about Fuente? Larry Porter decimated Memphis.

Coach O is the substitute teacher who is 1-0 vs the SEC West coaching an uber loaded team against a team with a 3-5 overall record.

Coach O didn't build that USC team and he didn't build this LSU team. If he wants to prove he has learned from his previous experiences he needs to go win at a school that will hire him as head coach. And last year Syracuse wouldn't even give him an interview. Maybe he should try La Tech.

Exactly. For the love of god I don't see why people don't understand this.

Looking back through the last 20 NC winning HCs, they were all pretty much successful everywhere they went...except chizik. And we all know that he sucksed after cam left.

Exactly. They weren't all dominant until they reached a major program, but they were good and they improved the teams they coached for prior to their destination jobs.

Why are our fans so damn determined to take a risk on this hire? This isn't a scratch off ticket. This is the next three plus years of LSU's football history. If you can't get a Fisher at least hire someone whose history tells you they could become the next Fisher.

Once again the NFL is completely different from college ball. It's a stupid comparison

And Pete Carroll was mildly successful in his stint with the Patriots. He went to the playoffs twice and would have in his third season if not for a late season slide.

It's not, for sure, but both Cutcliffe and freeze did/are doing better than he did. I mean yeah it's tough, but his record is still really really bad. I believe he went 0-8 in conference his last year there. That's a literal all time low in Ole Miss' history.

I mean that's really no excuse for his poor dealings as Ole Miss coach.

Pete Carroll does a little more than 'let at his assistants coach'.
