How does Geoff Collins have a 7 year contract?

I thought Collins was a solid hire but he isn’t and they’re going to finish with 3 wins for the 3rd straight season.
It doesn’t seem like GT can even move on from him because he has 4 YEARS LEFT on his contract!
I get they needed some time to transition from Paul Johnson but Jimmy Sexton swindled them boys in a big way.

Damn I thought they already fired him

Sexton is gonna mess around and ADs are gonna stop dealing with his clients. Hard to screw people over with no major job offers.

Would you take over a Triple Option Team without at least 5 years to recruit a non triple option roster before being judged?

That's one of the toughest P5 jobs in the country, not even including the added burden of having to transition from the triple-option.
Collins may not get it done, but I think he's a good coach. He's probably regretting taking that job, because he would've had other opportunities.
Not sure anyone else they could have legitimately gotten could have done any better.

I probably would have went all in on a stone cold recruiter to at least have a chance picking off some 2nd level Atlanta area recruits.
He’ll land somewhere else as a good DC

Collins was known as a great recruiter.

Ehh he's having to completely overhaul a team that ran option for over a decade. That's not a quick turn around gig for anyone. 3 years is still too early to judge. They lost a lot of close games this year too so they may be beginning to turn the corner.

On top of having to start the rebuild at the start of covid.

GT has some serious financial problems/debt.
Not sure they can afford to get rid of em.

GT athletics financial woes

This is arguably the most damning figure from this report: in FY2019, Georgia Tech spent more on debt service payments than on scholarships (listed under Athletic Student Aid). I rest my ca—[buzzes in ear] Hm, I’m getting word from Atlanta that there’s one more figure I must show you:

It’s the only way they were going to get someone to come in and fix the mess of Paul Johnson. You knew it was going to be a long process to turn that roster over.
