From a terrible contract that Woodward signed him to. Aggies will be thanking us for years. I really hope this isn’t the case…

You do realize that he just signed an extension that Woodward had nothing to do with?

There is no salary cap for these coaching deals and A&M has money falling out their assholes. Having to pay him that money makes no real difference to their program outside of the results that it will bring, good or bad.

And spoiler alert the same would be true if Jimbo or some other coach was pulling in that contract at LSU

You realize no matter what coach we hire, Woodward is going to give him a monster contract, right?

Like 10 mill a year

Prepare yourself bc it’s happening

So the current administration is also incompetent. Anybody who thinks Jimbo’s originally contract or current one isn’t terrible is delusional. He’s doing what Kevin sumlin did

Been aiming to make this thread and I hadn't gotten to it yet. Hiring Jimbo would be doing a huge favor for the Aggies. He's not going to win a championship there and I fully believe that's a program capable of winning a championship.

They're in a fertile recruiting footprint

They've got facilities to rival anyone

They've got money out the arse and a huge alumni base hungry enough to support it.

All the resources are there but Jimbo won't be the guy to unlock that potential. He's Les Miles. Stubbornly content in his old school offensive identity, he'll keep them consistent at a minimum of 8 wins, won't bottom out the program but incapable of unlocking the next level. Look at LSU, boots Miles and wins a title within 3 years.

Look at Aggie this year. 1 loss season coming off the orange bowl win. Preseason top 10. LSU and Auburn are in down cycles. The west is wide open for em. And hey they finally beat Alabama. But oops...they lost to Arkansas and Mississippi State. They should be cruising to Atlanta right now but Jimbo held them back and he always will.

Hiring Jimbo would bail them out from under the long term Liability of Jimbos contract, hamper a division rival with it instead and leave a new coach to tap into the one area that Jimbo, like Miles, has left them well stocked...recruiting.

A&M is without a doubt a program on the rise under Jimbo if you look at the recruits he is bringing in. King is a stud and he has a five star QB coming in next season. He is loading up that dline with talent and the oline has big time players coming in

I completely agree. The 7.5 M per year original contract was such a joke. He won a title at FSU, then down a little more each year thereafter. Jimbo is above average, but he is nowhere close to a great one. He can't hold Saban's jock.

Sure, Jimbo can probably get them 1 title. But after that, look out below.

Too bad we can’t bargain shop like the good old days. Damn Woodward and his insistence on being elite.

Woodward made a mediocre hire with Jimbo. I guess we'll say above average. Folks here are too mesmerized with Woody. He's a better AD than we've had, yes, but there is no guarantee whatsoever that he won't screw up this hire.

Y'all holding that against Woodward is freaking insane. He did what he was told to get their guy.

Also, the new AD extended/added on to his contract, no?

Interesting hindsight. It's still A&M and they took a National Championship coach away from another program.

Y'all are ridiculous trying to trash him on hiring Jimbo and also caring one iota about money. A&M is still very much satisfied with their coach. So what is the problem? I really don't get the criticism here.

A&M gave him a blank check to get their guy. They got their guy... and they are happy with their guy to this very day.

He didn't make this hire at LSU.

Who can?

At least he finally beat Saban though.

I think LSU is a position to build something as special with the right coach. Which is why it is a tempting job to take. Imagine LSU with an above avg coach.

I would imagine that SW sold the high salary to A&M by negotiating no buyout when/if they have to fire him.

I’m aware of the differences in buyouts if a coach is fired vs. hired by another program. What is Jimbo’s buyout if he is fired by A&M?
