From what im hearing its not what the schools paying him its his investments in oil wells that boosters and alums have helped him with.

That's what Dan Mullen and Randy Edsall made this past year.
On the same level as Mark Dantonio, Tommy Tuberville, Skip Holtz, Tom O'Brien, Steve Sarkisian, Bret Bielema, Mike Stoops, Dennis Erickson, Chris Petersen, Jimbo Fisher, Charlie Strong, Butch Davis, Mike Gundy and Mike Sherman.
Just because the SEC is in an arms race to pay for the best coaches, doesn't mean the rest of college football is. Most of the SEC coaches has proven they can win and that's why they get paid like they do. Chizic only got paid $400K more than Patterson and he's in the championship game this year.
