ha, I'd just mentioned Brohm to some Tech alum friends of mine. that seems like quite a bit for Tech to pay, always got the impression that they weren't even moderately big spenders.

my first choice is Leach. ain't gonna happen, but he'd liven up the news coverage.

Not so fast with Brohm. He has been recruiting for Purdue up till last night offering kids...supposedly, his agent is in West Lafayette. Louisville fans think this has been done since October...I’m thinking he is listening and seeing who is going to give a sweeter deal. Louisville is strapped and can not over pay with the shite going down with Jurich, Pitino, and Petrino. Supposedly Brohm was offered 5 years at $4 million. Sounded like he was not feeling the love from the Louisville AD with that offer.

Sounds like GT is interested in Brohm. Heard 7/years $45 million.

It would be hilarious to stick it to the Purdue AD (left Tech to go there a couple of years ago but was God awful and really screwed shite up while he was here), but there is no way Brohn is going anywhere other than Louisville.

The acc coastal is horrendous. GT has QBs that ran the spread offense very successfully in high school (james Graham 4 star recruit). They will transition into that type of offense for the time being. Biggest transition will be on the OL but if Parker Braun stays (all ACC OL) it will be much smoother.

The transition will not be nearly as bad as people are making it out to be, no one is asking the next head coach to win 10 games his first season

Yep, Graham was supposed to go to VT to play in that spread offense, so I'm confident he could thrive in a similar scheme at GT.

My concern is if we'll be able to teach our offensive linemen how to block from a 2 point stance before the start of next season. I think in general we have the big receivers, the slot receivers, the QBs, and the running backs (Benson, Howard, and Mason) to do Ok if our offensive line can get up to speed. I think the talent is there in the skill positions, just need to unlock it with a system that takes advantage of that talent.

CPJ had one, no-argument great season that was the result of his steering of the program: 2014. 2016 was another pretty good year

2008 & 2009, cliche as it sounds, were with players he was not capable of recruiting himself. Gailey's 07 Class + Bebe were legit. To his credit, his system with their talent worked great. But he never proved able to recruit at that level himself, because kids don't want to play his system when given a choice.

All of the other seasons were a big pile of MEH or worse.

He isn't that impressive when you normalize for 2008/2009, which anyone intellectually honest would. I can't take '14 away from him.

this is a good post.

guys like Dwyer would have never gone to Tech to play in that scheme. in fact, a very close friend was in a group with Dwyer in one of their business management courses and he straight up told her that this was the case. Same with D. Thomas.

Calvin Johnson didn't play in the system, but he was on record in an interview with the AJC that he would have gone elsewhere to catch some passes if Johnson had been the coach during his recruitment. The offense in 2008 was ok utnil late in the year when it took off with those guys, but that team was solid because of the defense. They lost some guys and their 09 defense was horrendous, otherwise they probably would have been 12-1 heading into bowl season with an outside shot at the BCS. 2014 was a perfect storm of having their best couple of olinemen in Johnson's tenure plus a bunch of big running backs at both the B and A back spots. The blocking was top notch.

If GT hires another option coach they’re basically saying “We are ok with just being average”.

I love watching the triple option offense as much as anyone, but it’s not ever going to win championships in major college football.

would be a great spot for Gus to land.

Damn you are 100% right. Never thought of it, but they already have the type of players that could adjust to his system. GT should be a perennial top 25 team given their location in the best recruiting city in the nation. They shouldn't have to settle for 8-4 option football.

Yep, they had to give up the big bowl win because a former player took a sweat suit and pair of tennis shoes. It was absolutely stupid

What kind of championships are you talking about? National championships? Where we all stand now, if you aren't UGA, Bama, Clemson, Ohio State, and Oklahoma, then you probably aren't going to be winning any championships regardless of the system you run.

Your post would have been more accurate to say that you won't be able to sustain a long run of very good to great teams. That is definitely true.

we had a "pro-style" coach before Johnson and went 7-5 every year.

we had a coach before that who ran a nice multiple scheme and our best season was 10-2 but we had losses against teams like Wake Forest, Maryland, and Virginia to derail seasons.

If GT hires another option coach, it's because the administration is probably scared of the 3-4 year rebuild that would be required otherwise. I don't think they will go the option route, for the record.

Which is a huge statement since he had to catch passes from Reggie Ball who was only slightly better a throwing than the RBs they play at QB now.

No, we had to give up the ACC championship because during the investigation of that player, the AD was told by the investigator that he wasn't allowed to tell Johnson what was going on because they didn't want the players to know that they were being looked into. The AD told Johnson anyways, so we got slapped by the NCAA for basically not being their bitch. It was documented somewhere that had we followed their rules, we would have had a tap on the wrist and not had to vacate any games.

You are definitely right though, it absolutely was stupid, and I think he got the shoes and shirt from a family member or former teammate or something that happened to be working as a low level guy in a agency of some sort. Meanwhile, UNC walks away with no punishments.

No offense, but I've suffered through all of Reggie Ball and all of Johnson's shite seasons, and Reggie was far superior to all but maybe one of the qb's we've had running the option. Johnson put up some monster numbers his junior year . If anything, Reggie gave him the opportunity to showcase his ability to catch anything and everything and allowed him to fill up the highlight reel with ridiculous catches on poorly thrown balls.

About 100 programs can’t do projection budgets for winning a title. Merely being good and competing in their conference is most schools goal

I would love to see Kingsbury at GT just as the ultimate experiment in changing scheme.

But legit this feels like a good place for Bill Clark.
