His staff meetings even look like Alabama's, with Napier surrounded by some 40 people each morning as he outlines the day ahead.
And that's not counting folks in the weight room and nutrition staff, which basically didn't exist before his arrival.
Before a practice recently, a staffer who spent time at Alabama was asked how Napier and Saban differ. He thought for a minute, then another, then shook his head in defeat. "One guy coaches offense and the other coaches defense," he says. "That's it."

I mean Nick Saban was fired as db cosch from Ohio state so guess that means he will always suck as a coach

You say that like being fired by that fake arse douchebag is a bad thing.

So he's going to out resource the sec teams? That's worked at ULL against sun belt programs. I dont like that the separating factor is he has more money spent on the program (staff, recruiting, etc).

He was then hired by Saban…twice, right?

This is my biggest problem with the idea of Napier.
No one will ever recreate what Saban has done with Alabama. Chasing that model is a fool’s errand imo.
Give me someone with their own unique style and approach, not some second hand knock off of the gold standard.
That’s how you get stuck with Zac Taylor if you’re a Bengals fan.

If you're hoping someone is going to be a Saban clone and replicate what Alabama has going, I think you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

Yeah, I don't get the obsession with this. Former Saban assistants as head coaches have been a mixed bag anyway. Jimbo has been the most successful, and this board thinks he sucks.
Mimicking Pete Carroll's philosophies obviously didn't help Orgeron in the long run.

But Billy Napier is the next Saban. Haven't you been reading the posts here?
He coached under Saban and he's really organized. He even talks like Saban.

They left out the part where Saban in his first year at Toledo won the conference title. Napier still hasn't, into his fourth year.

This is not swinging for the fences by Woody then. How disappointing it would be.

exactly. at least napier is a real coach and not just some ceo/salesman, clapping, fist-pumping hype machine.

When I hear "like Saban", I envision a complete and utter focus on every detail. Address every variable you can to swing things in your favor, before the first coaching session ever starts.
I see Aranda as this type of guy, and he's at a bigger program now than Napier is. Still don't know if he's ready to be the big dog at LSU yet, either.

So I assume Napier is on USC's short list too, right? Their message boards must be filled with countless threads pushing for him since he's a can't-miss who coached under Saban.
Or do their fans also have a fictional hatred of ULL that precludes his candidacy?

I bet you said the same about Kirby smart too!!! That hire seems to be working out
