I've been a little disappointed with him. But he does seem to be an asset in recruiting.

Also, if true, I hope Les considers Rob Ianello.

he's a good recruiter. prob a better coach than mccarthy was too. i am very happy with the current staff and would like to see as little attrition as possible...but if we had to lose one i guess gonzo would be my pick.

Agree. But is just looks good on a resume. Troop is also one to slap WRs after TDs, but his commitment level is even higher than that. He does flying bumps with them too.

I'd like to see Tyke Tolbert. Or someone with actual connections in Florida, not BGs 'connections'.

ETA: Maybe this guy?

Why anyone would want Porter to destroy our team & staff chemistry any more than he did in exchange for recruiting-which we already do just as well with him gone-is beyond me.

Forget what position he coaches. He's an idiot of the highest magnitude from a coaching standpoint, & created beyond toxic relationships with players.

As for Gonzo, I think most folks remember what crappy play & execution we had out of the WR unit in 2008 & 2009 when they were coached by DJ McCarthy. The guy's biggest claims to fame were:

1.) Setting cones out at practice for WR's to run drills with.
2.) Talking into his cellphone for large periods of practice (allegedly to recruits; probably to just give him an excuse for not teaching & coaching during the appointed time to do so)
3.) Illegally recruiting players-some of which got caught.

Gonzo was here two years & a bowl season of a 3rd, & without adequate QB Coaching he did really well, all things considered.

Shep is a legitimate 2/3 WR in the SEC with bad QB play & only two years at the position. OBJr has flourished in his first year on campus as an 18 year old. Randle turned into-at worst-a high 2nd round pick.

You can't say that Cooper deserves credit for younger players producing without noticing how much kids like OBJr produced for Gonzo.

Anyone who watched the drills he put the WR through at practice & then saw the middle routes & slants Toliver caught for TD's against UF who says Gonzo didn't devleop our WR's is stupid.

He may not have been the best WR coach we ever had (Todd Monken probably gets that honor), but he was a huge improvement on our previous WR Coach, both as a developer of talent, a recruiter of talent, & as a guy who played by NCAA rules.

Oh, & by the way...I'm sure he won't push 5* talents to sign with other schools on his way out of town from LSU, either. Something else we can thank DJ Mac for.

he does? What'd he do besides get Patrick Peterson's little brother to be a soft commit over 3 years?

Let's see, he didn't get us put on probation, reduce our recruiting visits & efforts, & force us to submit to scholarship reductions.

So, while he may not have reeled in any big-timers, he definitely didn't take scholarships away from the program or put us on probation, while also developing our talent & not exactly scaring off top-flight wide receiver recruits from signing with us, either. Kadron Boone was a high qualty 4-Star kid out of Brantley's HS who was a bigtime recruit that signed with us over UGA because of Gonzo's arrival here.

So perhaps its a case of him not doing any harm compared to the last guy in his position in regards to his attempts to get kids on campus. Our cupboard isn't exactly bare in the WR department, & I've already provided examples showing that he's done a good job in developing the talent on hand. Some of it very green & inexperienced.

Avery, Patrick Miller, Jerrard Randall was almost entirely him iirc, Kadron Boone.

He's plucked at least one kid from Florida every year he's been here.
