He used to be a hot name. They didn't have THAT bad of a season this year to really dispel the notion that he's a good coach.

Why did his name not even come up for the A&M job, or any other job for that matter?

He is well paid at a good school in a good city...good conference, etc...he can compete with the big boys now...we shall see how TCU does playing a tougher schedule. I expect many 7-5, 8-4 seasons for them....

Yes, he is well paid, but A&M is still a much better job than TCU. Just look at the talent TCU pulls in compared to A&M.

Remember when Greg Schiano was the hottest name in coaching?

Well, PAtterson would be well advised to cash a bigger check and get a bigger job with a bigger fanbase and a bigger chance of championships before he turns into Greg Schiano.

Not really an opinion.

Facilities-------Kyle Field + A&M money/practice facilities.
FANS-------------TAMU fans fill their stadium. TCU has an empty stadium at times.
CONFERENCE-------no debate here.

meh, maybe he doesn't want a bigger check with the pressures of a bigger job. Maybe he wants the stability. Schiano has been at Rutgers for 11 seasons and there's no end in site.

Patterson's been at TCU for 12 years with only 30 losses. He could be there for another 10-15 years and then retire. If he goes to another school, he'll have a maximum of 3-5 years to win big, or he'll get fired.

So, he could get paid $5 million/year for 5 years and get fired. Or, he can continue to make $3 million/year for the next 15 years without fear of ever getting fired.

They had a great year. They replaced a ton - including a multi-year starter at QB - and still won 10 games. They also did the rest of CFB a huge favor by beating Boise on the blue turf.

He's a very, very good coach. TCU became a much better job when they accepted the Big 12 invite. They walk into that league as about the 3-4th best team with a chance to climb quickly. Someone would have to make a pretty strong offer to get him IMO.

Once money isn't an issue then location has to count for a lot.

Everything I've read says that Patterson was given an extension through 2018 to make approximately $3 million/year in January of 2011.
LINK

I'm not sure where you are getting the $7 million/year number. But, you might want to go find a link or stop spreading those rumors.

and A&M did contact him. Our $4M wasn't going to even pique his interest. Nobody's taking a paycut for a rebuilding job in the SEC West
