I know Scott Frost is the hot name right now, but the more I watch Oregon's offense and see how he is pulling top recruits from Florida with him all the way to Oregon, the more I like Willie T as a front runner for the UF job. IF UF were to hire him, they would have a top 5 recruiting class every year while running an offense that Gator fans have been longing for for years.

Willie T

You could do a lot worse than Willie Taggart. Guy is a solid coach and is a good recruiter.

He's been one of my favorite coaches since his 2011 season Western Kentucky.

He's not bad. He basically built Western Kentucky so the motocross champ could take over for a season followed by Brohm.
He's the one that got things started there though few give him credit

I am not sold on his ability to guide anybody to a great record, or natty.

At WKU he went 2-10, 7-5 and 7-5. He has never had a winning record anywhere except at Oregon, where he is 5-4.

If he comes to the SEC he may find out that even Vanderbilt may stomp your arse if you don't bring your A game.

Ummm. He turned South Florida around before going to Oregon.

How well would he do in the SEC? Who knows? But he's already turned around two programs as a HC

Yep. He went 24-25 at USF with a bowl win and #19 ranking his last year. I am not saying he is not a good coach. I am saying his track record has some glitches on it.

He left the cupboard somewhat full for Charlie Strong but they rely too much on the athleticism of their QB and QB runs.

I just don't thing WT is SEC ready yet.

I like what i saw when i watched his Oregon offense. Power running game mixed with some IZ along with fly sweeps.
Put that with him bringing in top 5 classes each yr, i think he would make UF a contender pretty quick

Willie's coaching winning percentage: .479
Willie's time at Oregon: 1 year

He's not winning enough.
He's not leaving after 1 year.

He's gonna own the PAC 12 in the next few years. Just don't see him pulling a Kiffin and leaving after 1 year.

bruce feldman (who i trust) seems pretty confident fsu/uf would be the only jobs he'd ditch oregon for after a year.

If you solely judge him by overall record, then your judgment could be flawed. Many of the losses were piled up in the early years as he rebuilt the program. A better way to look at it may be the trajectory of the program from when he started to when he left.

WKU:
Year before he became HC: 0-12
1st year: 2-10
2nd year: 7-5
3rd year: 7-6

He took a complete bottom dweller and made them a winner in 2 years.

USF:
Year before he arrived: 3-9
Year 1: 2-10
Year 2: 4-8
Year 3: 8-5
Year 4: 11-2

He's already got more wins this year at OU than they had all of last season. He's taken two programs from losers and made them winners within two year. Do it once and it might just be a fluke. Twice, and you start to think maybe he knows what he's doing.

If nothing else, he's shown the ability to bring in good players. I think most would agree UF should be recruiting better than what they have been. He may not be the first choice. But as an LSU fan, I don't want to see him in the SEC.

He's also a culture-changer. The WKU team that came to Tiger Stadium in 2011 was the only team we faced at home that wasn't intimidated. They played harder and more physically than anyone else we played at home that year. Including Florida and Auburn. That was when I became a fan of Taggart.

He is coming, just not yet. He is probably going to end up 6-6 this year. He will also get a minor bowl.

Things are changing in the Pac 12. The easier recruiting is in CA but the three best coaches may be up north. Within a few years he should be in the 9-3 or 10-2 territory. This is when the SEC comes calling.

Those Oregon boys in the A.D. are business minded and the money he will generate will make them step up to try and keep him. Revenue generation will give them the ability to pay him fat cash.

I still think he will, at some point, want to test himself in the SEC. He has a marketable skill.

I'd love having TAGGART. He's got a top 10 class at Oregon. He's fixing Helfrichs mess with top talent.

Exactly.

Why would he leave Oregon after one year?

For a destination program? Sure.
